She also wants actual notes instead of keys on the screen, but Harmonix ain't doing that.

They actually should think about it if their goal is to really teach people how play instruments, but whatever. I just get drunk and jump off my coffee table while singing and pressing buttons on a plastic guitar.

I think there's a very good argument to be made that learning how to play an instrument and learning how to read music are two separate goals

I'll admit that after struggling with pro-mode, ending with "this shouldn't be hard wait what is this red section" Imagine, I went to regular keyboard and started doing great on expert.

I will settle down sometime and try to learn this some day.  I'm sure training mode will help somehow.

theres a 3 pack of free Doors DLC, you have to go into the music store and get it before tonight.
Make sure you look for them in the in-game music store, they don't show up in the normal PS3/360 store.

Well, crap. I tried logging in when I got home, couldn't access the in-game store. Tried again a little later, "CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE" -- why the hell would they time limit something so severely to the first week? Should I call HMX and protest, shake my bony fist?

Give them a call. They might be impressed that you're in Japan and imported it, or they could give you some excuse about not offering support in Japan.

Apparently they have been really good about correcting the Lego Rock Band export fiasco so you might still be able to get the free songs.

I was thinking about it just yesterday, actually.  My alarm clock is allegro cantabile (opening to the nodame anime) and I was thinking that I'd like to play in RB3 keyboard.

I hope they throw in more classical piano too.

I contacted their support through email about the free Doors DLC. We'll see if anything comes of it. My precognitive powers show ONLY DARKNESS.

Keyboards are messing with my sight reading. You can put all five fingers on board, so whenever I see "green" my pointer finger moves instead of my thumb. Chords with my thumb: Automatic failure. It's been a while since I nearly failed out of a song on Medium. :lol

I can't imagine what it will be like when I actually try to use the black keys. The tutorial bits with the minor keys was almost do-able, but only when I'm focusing on a couple keys. At the very least, it's interesting to have another new instrument controller with its own tricks to remember.

Has anyone successfully linked their account yet? I am getting "Unable to generate code" from inside RB3's Options>Extras>Linking Code menu, and a lot of "We rocked too hard" (Server busy) page returns on Rock Band.

I know they've dropped Rock Band 2 support from their site, and a few months ago the Merch stuff was removed; the Bandmates were brought off line, but the "picture studio" feature was also removed, which was sad. With RB3 do any of those features return once you've linked?

Hopefully all of you have been enjoying Rock Band 3! Here's the DLC coming out next week: a 12 pack of Bon Jovi's greatest hits, including the first back catalog songs updated for Pro mode! We're also releasing the 3 singles that were previously only available to the clever folks that pre ordered RB3 from GameStop. Be sure to check out the songs marked with "X" and view the pricing info below to see which tracks have Pro Guitar and Bass upgrades available.

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 9):

Bon Jovi – “Bad Medicine”
Bon Jovi – “Blaze of Glory”
Bon Jovi – “Have a Nice Day”
Bon Jovi – “I’ll Be There For You”
Bon Jovi – “It’s My Life”
Bon Jovi – “Lay Your Hands On Me”
Bon Jovi – “Livin’ on a Prayer (RB3 version)” X
Bon Jovi – “Runaway” X
Bon Jovi – “Wanted Dead or Alive (RB3 version)” X
Bon Jovi – “We Weren’t Born to Follow”
Bon Jovi – “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”
Bon Jovi – “You Give Love a Bad Name (RB3 version)” X
Deftones – “My Own Summer (Shove It)” X
New Order – “Blue Monday” X
Talking Heads – “Burning Down the House” X

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Nov. 10)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Bon Jovi Greatest Hits: Rock Band Edition” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song

$0.99 USD (100 Wii Points/80 Microsoft Points), £0.59 UK, €0.75 EU per song for eligible Pro Guitar/Pro Bass upgrade

$19.99, £9.99 UK, €14.99 EU (1,600 Microsoft Points, 2,000 Wii Points) for Bon Jovi Greatest Hits: Rock Band Edition

-=-------------------

You HAVE to rebuy the Bon Jovi songs that you alredy own in order to get keyboards, and then pay the extra $1.00 for pro guitar and bass. You can't simply upgrade your old dlc.

I may have figured out why they're doing the "no export of previous HMX 'in-house' bands" songs: It's not that they hadn't covered the licenses from their own bands, it's because their own bands are likely the EASIEST to re-release songs for -- it gives them a chance to update ALL the songs for RB3 with keyboard parts and backing vocals.

Now I'm looking forward to breaking my fingers against some crazy Freezepop songs. Those were always so hard to play on guitar for me; keyboards will probably be equally difficult.

Also, for whatever it's worth. Despite linking, unlinking, linking, relinking, and multiple reboots of RB3, the dastardly "Well-Connected" 'cheev (6 GS) finally popped for me. It was really driving me crazy having the not-divisible-by-five Gamerscore resulting from the calibration 'cheev (4 GS) sitting there. That's some mean crap to do to gamers, who commonly have obsessive-compulsive tendencies.

Are you back to counting Track Packs, half-price DLC substitutes, as full releases? They don't belong as integers in the same counting system used for GH: Van Halen...

so, I'm thinking of picking up LEGO Rock Band just to get some more tracks ... you can get a new copy of the game + export key for about $25 total.

chrono, I think you picked it up - any thoughts on the overall track list (or anyone else for that matter)? There's at least a dozen tracks I know I want, so I figure cost-wise it's a wash vs. regular DLC.

It's a decent set of tracks; some are really fun. Some you'll wish had keyboard support. If there are a dozen you want, you're in good shape.

The game will be hard to tolerate if you're into RB3 solidly. RB3 has masked their loadtimes so gracefully, and Lego Rock Band takes all the crap from RB2 and magnifies it with unnecessary trips to the Lego base station and the Garage.  :maf

I'm purely talking about the songs, I only spent about 45 minutes playing the actual game before exporting the tracks into RB2.

I've got like 900 GS out of it, only missing the 4-players-get-100%-on-a-single-song and FC-the-Final-Countdown-solo on Expert Guitar 'cheevs.

If Howard Treesong ever comes to Japan, I'ma make him clear it for me.

I was probably the only guy on this board who got excited when he saw "BILLY JOEL COLLECTION: ROCK BAND 3 EDITION" as DLC.

Then I saw it's 1600 points. What. The. Fuck?

The Ballad of Gay Tony is 1600 points. Each of the Red Dead expansions was, what, 800 points? 1200? But that's HOURS of play.

Has there even been another 1600 pt. music track pack? I think I paid 1600 for BLOODSUGARSEXMAGIK but I was in a fit of ecstasy there...

There's been several 1600 point track packs. And then the AC/DC retail one was $40. :(

Yeah, it dawned on me afterward that the full-album ones are usually 1600 pts. It's just that I'm used to seeing "THE NICE PRICE" or "THE SUPER SAVER" stickers on most Billy Joel albums, and a $4.99 or $7.99 price tag on the cover, along with Billy's feathered hair and soppy, wet eyes. Hitting me up for 20 bucks seems more outrageous for some reason.

And I won't disagree with you calling AC/DC a track pack, but it is also a standalone game with its own set of cheevs. I guess if the 1600 point Rock Band DLC also came with some 'cheevs, I'd bitch about it less.

...And wasn't it only 29 bucks? Or was that a launch week price at WalMart?
