I dont buy a lot of electronics, and when I do tend to buy them while out on my own I end up being disappointed in the product one way or the other. I originally picked this up for its small form factor, with only the fairly normal ambitions of easy access to the web/e-mail and various work tasks while on the go, but what I ended up getting was a fantastic mid-range laptop that has really decent game performance.

Now im not talking Company of Heroes or Titan Quest, but I am talking Dungeon Siege II/Command and Conquer Generals at solid quality and a solid framerate. I just wasnt expecting to get a decent mid range gaming laptop for 1100 dollars (1000 + 100 for 1 extra gig o ram) but here I have it.

Additionally its extremely stylish, the keyboard is fantastic and has a great feel to it, the screen is OMG clear, the bodylines are sleek and future, and god damn...its awesome.

SO, make this your next laptop if your aim isnt power, but you wouldnt mind getting some anyway ;-)

The latest HP series are really good, I guess the nr models are the most reliable. Acer makes good laptops these days too, but I went for SMALL. 14-15 inches is too big for me. 12 or less all teh way.

I think 14' is perfect, 15.4' is too big, 13.3' a bit small

My laptop aka my workhorse. Built like a brick, it took quit a few beating and it works fine. Ghetto specs nowadays but it runs ubuntu like a god damn race car. I love it. It got a pentium-m 1.7ghz processor and 1gb of ram. I could pretty much live with it for the rest of my life, and it doesnt look like a toy.

Bought three years ago.  P4 3.4ghz EE with hyper threading, whatever the hell that means.  1gb of ram.  Still runs great and plays just about everything.  A good computer should last about 3-4 year without upgrading.  I plan to buy my next one next year some time.

viz: you get more power 14'' and up anyway. most small form factors are stuck at mid-range unless you pay a lot and get a 13 inch with crazy shit in it.

You can customize one that's just as good/better than probably every other laptop in this thread for $1000-$1100.

I think the dv2500t laptops are too small. A 14-15 inch monitor is just right for me.

Viz/Nikki: Supposedly its so the laptop can serve as a flat screen tv sorta display. My laptop came with a remote, and there's a receiver along the edge of the screen, so I could create a mount for the laptop and treat it like a movie player kinda I guess. I'll never use the swivel feature tho..

Yeah, I can see that.  I already have a 15 inch MacBok Pro, and I wanted something slightly smaller and lighter--something really portable.  I hate to seem like a nag, but 15.4" isn't quite portable enough for me, and then there's the build problems. . .

Still, if I didn't already have a bigger laptop, I'd probably have wanted something a notch up, too.

I could have knocked 500 bucks off the price by going with a normal display (LED monitors cost like 250-300 bucks, but they are about a half pound lighter, brighter, and more battery efficient), and no mobile broadband.  If I kept the processor at the base config of 1.8ghz (which is still plenty fast for a dual core), it would have been another 200 less.  That hard drive was also a 100 dollar upgrade.

There are more affordable configurations of the laptop on dell's site.  I just have the bad habit of wanting the best I can get.

holy shit, how does AT&T mobile broadband work?  say, if i'm an iphone customer with a data plan, would i be able to use that service?
