... but then they get absolutely pwnz0wned by the side-quest bosses.

Man, I only just fought one, and it was tougher than anything I've done in the game so far.

I'm near the end of the game. Amazing game. Easily better than Persona 3.

The main quest is pretty easy, I havent died once. Wander off to do side quests in Disc 3, and suddenly the game gets ramped up.

After you beat the tough sidequest bosses, do you get rewarded with a ridiculously powerful wepon that can finish the final boss in one hit, like in Final Fantasy?

Don't see how that's funny, it defines what an achievement is.

I guess it's understandable if you're a noob who plays DMC3 on Easy, though.

easy in SE is the hardest available option from the start!

I played Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 to completion, so your argument is pretty flat. You just can't win, Arvie.

At what point does BD get hard? I just got Marumaro and haven't felt challenged in combat at all. I fight every monster I encounter and I'm at level 12 or so. I checked a FAQ and it was recommending level 10 for where I'm at so I'm guessing I'm a bit overpowered.

-How are the sidequests? Are they the tipical collect-a-ton or the kill-the-bosses type? Or are they more open ended?

I'll answer the first:

Sword Master (Mage Knight), Assassin (Thief/Ninja), Monk, Guardian (Knight), Black Mage, White Mage, Barrier Mage, Support Mage and Generalist.

It seems like you unlock a new class of your choice once every 5 levels. They abilities aren't as in depth or varied as FF5 and I find myself leveling everyone up relatively equally in them so far.
