REAL TALK: i'm lovin blue dragon
« on: September 18, 2007, 12:39:59 AM »
i haven't been into jrpg's much in the last few years.  i'll play a few here and there, but nothing like when i was younger.  i have been addicted to blue dragon since last week.  wow just wow.  for some reason, i am loving this game.  i think because it's so easy  :(

Dude, I've been meaning to tell you.  I went looking for your Saturn last weekend when I was shopping for my external hard drive.  I dunno why but the prices have gone up ridiculously since I last saw them - used Saturns that used to go for 3500 yen are now going for upwards of 8000!  Same thing with Dreamcasts! I dunno wtf is up.

Are Dreamcasts region free?  I want to get one as insurance.  My DC seems to be taking too long in reading some games.  I wonder if dust is messing with the laser because I haven't used it in a long time.

Blue Dragon is awesome. It makes me feel like I'm 11 years old playing FF4 again.

I don't think they are, but I played a few JP games thanks to boot discs/isos.

DCs are not region free.  I have a modded one, but it doesn't work so well anymore...takes several minutes sometimes before the drive starts spinning.  And I dunno how to fix it. :(

I picked it up last weekend.  I haven't played it yet but I can't wait.  Too bad it's not doing to well here critically or commercially.  The 360 really more games like this.  That's was made the PS2 so appealing, broad mainstream hits and cool, quirky titles from NIS, Atlus, and such.

Game is amazing and it just keeps getting better and better. I'm up to a part where things have gotten a lot less linear, wrapping up a buncha sidequests before going for the end.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

how much is 8000 yen?  like 80 bucks?  i can still do that.  fuck.

Moops is looking for a JP Saturn?  :o
just a saturn really :-*

Yeah, the game is starting to open up.  I'm about 12 hours in.  That fucking dead forest is the only part i think that pissed me off, other than that, it was easy, but not so easy that i got bored.  i love this game and it makes me horny for Lost Odyssey.

is it easy or is it like Xenosaga easy where suddenly you hit an unpassable boss that you retry 99 times?

nah, that hasn't happened yet.  the only boss i've fought more than once was the first.  and that's because he caught me off guard and my guys were all sorts of fucked up by that point.

Oh yeah, I hit that Hydra rattler boss. He fucked me up but only because I didn't have Ground and Jiro had like no MP. I still won with no one alive but Jiro.

Jiro is always the first to die in my party.  and the rattler was the easiest boss fight i've come across  haha   but i had ground.  after my first cycle of moves, two of the heads were already dead.

Stores jack up their prices as the Tokyo Game Show approaches, because of foreigners who don't know any better.

Oh, wait till you fight the

multi-segmented water dragon robot, where you pick away at body parts one by one till you get to the tail

... my favorite fight in the game so far.

Wait until you get Corporeals. Easily better than any "limit break" I've seen in any RPG.

the rattler hydra boss is the only one that gave me shit, because i figured the caves were a "transitional" dungeon and because i hadn't bothered buying any significant healing items or grinding levels -- the game was ridiculously easy up to that point, and then BOOM POISON LOL.

I did that subquest in disk 3 so one Groundus spell was enough to wipe out the Hydrattler and all his little cronies with one hit. The last dungeon I was in started to really wear on my party since it took me an hour and a half to get through, with no saves, and tons of enemies, but overall the game hasn't been terribly challenging at all.

the poison pissed me off.  i used the Cure-All in the treasure chest to cure Shu and let the others die and booked it outta there!  haha

Has everyone moved onto a different game now or something? I just picked this up yesterday and I'm about 4 hours in. Loving every minute of it.

Nope, I'm still playing it, but some of these bonus dungeons haven't been anything terribly interesting and they feel really tacked on, like they are just... there... without any point to the story or any further plot development when you finish.

I'm inching towards the final battle, I want to beat it before grinding to 99 and tackling everything else.
