I feel sorry for the sad fucks who didn't see Grindhouse in theaters. They may never experience anything like that in our day and age ever again and the dvd releases won't be the same thing.

Once in a lifetime experience for our generation.

Why oh why did they have to split the movies up?  I'll wait for the multi-disc set featuring both films.

Agreed. Planet Terror is so god awful. Death Proof was only slightly better.

This movie was a total fucking snore until the awesome chase scene.

Planet Terror at least had you going from the minute it started.  Just an all around fun movie.

Agreed. Planet Terror is so god awful. Death Proof was only slightly better.

I really liked Death Proof from the half hour mark or so, when the second group of gals came in.  The first bit was snoresville.  Kurt Russel and Rose McGowan were the only good parts of it, and unfortunately they were largely bit players.  The other girls in that first bit, the ones the movie focused on, were boring and terrible.

I'm hoping that the extended cut makes that first part better, though I really don't know how it could, since I figure if anything could have made that first part worthwhile, it would have been in the Grindhouse cut.

I have no problem with talkie movies, and I love Tarantino dialogue.  The girls in the second part, that scene in the diner, that's solid gold.  Rosario Dawson delivers the goods.  The girls in the first part, their talkie section is just not very interesting.

Planet Terror is unsalvageable, but I am going to count this viewing of Death Proof as my "official" viewing.  The Grindhouse cut was disjointed enough that I think there has to be something significantly different in the extended cut.

I take it you didn't appreciate the film(s)?

I liked what I saw of Deathproof; I saw the "boring" parts up to the point where he killed the first group of females. Since I don't like anything that involved zombies I avoided Planet Terror, but I'll give it a fair shake once it hits the library shelf

Planet Terror bit.  FACT.

And damn, the extended cut of Death Proof is 1 hour, 53 minutes.  Wasn't the Grindhouse cut like a half hour less than that?  I have to admit that's more footage than I was expecting.

Man, that ending is so killer.  That last half hour is so nuts because they clearly didn't use "safe" special effects.  There's no way to fake the majority of that chase.

Still movie of the year for me after getting the dvd. The only new scene I don't like were new scenes at the gas station in the second half. I loved the part where Stuntman Mike touches Rosario's feet, but other than that. Blah.

Love the movie to death.

The extras are great too. If you like Death Proof as much as me, the 2 disc collection is definitely worth it for the second disc alone because of all the interesting stuff they got (tons of stuff on stunts, grindhouse movies;etc.)

So Death Proof > Hot Fuzz?

I've tried to watch Hot Fuzz thrice, and I haven't made it all the way through.  It's not as though I have disliked what I have seen, but I think the movie cools down after the first 20-30 minutes, and I can't keep motivated.

Death Proof is hot.  Is there a list of what all new was added?  It's not like their were new big chunks to the movie added, but lots of more little bits and additions to conversations, so it is more difficult to tell what has been added without seeing them next to each other.  I swear the first part of the movie felt better though, but it's still the weaker portion.

What the hell.  The last 15 minutes of Hot Fuzz is the best part.  They saved the best for the moneyshot.  Finishing short of the finish line is a sin.

From my viewing, this is all I think was added:

1. Lap dance scene
2. Beginning of the second part where the girls are outside the convience store and it's black and white. Also, the part inside the convience store is new as well. The part where Rosario gets the Allure magazine.
3. The part with the sheriff and his "son number one" from Kill Bill is entirely new and explains some of Stuntman Mike's motivation.

Aside from the very short part in the convenience store, I think those are all really good additions.  I can't believe the lapdance wasn't in the theatrical cut.  That was boner academy.

I know lots of people (including myself) say it is one of the best/the best of this year, but I think it is probably best to go in with lowered expectations.  I love the movie a lot, but it's very talkie--it's really *not* for the most part like a 70s grindhousee movie at all, and that's what people expect.  It has touches of the big chase movies, and revenge flicks, but it's really its own movie.

I'm a huge Tarantino nerd, sounds like it's right up my alley.  If it was in the theaters for more than two weeks I would have caught it there but my friends and I were lazy and unmotivated for a three hour movie.  You kind of need to be in the mood for an experience like that, too bad it got pulled so fast.

I went in just expecting a Tarantino movie and ended up blown away. I previously didn't know jack shit about the story, or anything, so Stuntman Mike killing them with the car was awesome and surprising. The movie just surprised the shit out of me since I didn't know what to expect.

I dunno.  Rodriguez got pretty close, but his movie ended up being lousy, so I am kind of glad that Tarantino did his own thing, even though it made it kinda not fit in well with the other material in Grindhouse.  Still better to make an actual good movie than a shitty one that fits the theme more.
