TUESDAY PURCHASES KKKUNTS
« on: September 18, 2007, 06:18:02 PM »

<3 Brecht

FUCK YES FINALLY

About mupepe's last relationship.

Good Harlan Ellison?  NO FUCKING WAY!  Inspired the Mad Max movies. . .and my DICK.

They totally fucked the order of releasing the Grindhouse flicks.  If they had released Grindhouse first, I would have bought that and this, but instead they released the only good part of Grindhouse (minus the trailers) first.  No double dip for me!

Like demi's hot wop dick popping membranes inside my manpussy!

I bet he was so pissed about that.  My copy actually doesn't have most of that stuff on the cover.  Might just be a PR graphic.

No, it's not a new version.  The monthly sale at my movie store was on cult movies, so I ended up grabbing that.

can you please explain what these criterion releases are? I've never heard of them and I want you to school me

3 Penny Opera is a film adaptation of the Bertolt Brecht play, which is in itself a retelling of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera.  Robinson Crusoe on Mars is a golden age 60s scifi retelling of, well, Robinson Crusoe.  Starring Batman.

also, whiteman, you have an awesome taste in ''different'' movies. i've never heard of the first four movies, but the synopsises sound pretty interesting.

Political, marxist plays, but not at the expense of artistry.  He was something of a defining early 20th century playwright, making his work important outside of its political ideas. Threepenny Opera is far and away his most popular work, but he has other frequently cited ones, like Baal, Saint Joan of the Stock Yards, and a couple others that I can't think of at the moment.

Whiteman, you actually bought Zoo? We saw it in the theater, and it's hauntingly beautiful, but man, I don't think I'd want to own it.

As for me...

Light week. Next week makes up for it, with the new Stars album, and Black Book and Tekkonkinkreet on Blu-ray.

This isn't a knock against TVC, as he clearly likes this stuff, but I bought a lot of quirky and obscure Criterion releases back in college that I never watched. I sold most of them off a while back after my wife called me out on this habit.

There's a thing at yakpak.com where you can get three random bags for $10. Shipping is $5.50 to the US no matter how many you order, so I got 2 orders (six bags) for $25.50. Sweet deal. [I'm really hurting for money right now and probably shouldn't have spent it, but I figured that it's cheap potential Christmas presents and stuff.]

I ordered mine on the 11th and they came today, as scheduled!

I got four Dickies bags and two YakPak iPod cases, one navy and one black. Two of the Dickies bags are big tote-size and two are a bit smaller. ALL are awesome.
spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's lime green! The inside is white with multi-colored stars, as you can see. The outside pouch is a velcro closure, and the inside has a zipper pouch and also a small cell-phone type pocket with no closure.

Navy blue, the inside is black with white, grey, and red stripes. Exactly the same on the inside as the first bag, and also the same size as the first bag. The front pouch, though, has a button closure and not a velcro one.

Red argyle! This one's kind of a slouchy looking purse, but it's study. It's just red on the inside and has no inside compartments. The two little front things are separate compartments with velcro closures, but the strap above them is the same strap (you can't only open one front compartment, they both open at the same time). Only the smallest textbooks would fit in it, it's more usable as a purse.

Outside, and

the inside of the top flap.

This is a corduroy messenger bag. Black with grey stars on it. Inside the flap is, obviously, red plaid. Inside the bag itself is just black. There are no other compartments inside the bag but there is a zipper one on the flap. You can fit most textbooks horizontally in this.

iPod cases, navy and black. Identical except for the color. They seem pretty sturdy/secure and you need to open a few things to get to the iPod itself, so there isn't a real danger of the iPod falling out. If I had an iPod (Creative players for me, thanks!) I'd definitely use them. My brother has an iPod Nano (not the new ones with the big screen, the older ones that only came in black or white) and this would be too big for it I think. It would probably fit the regular iPod or maybe the iPod video.

Here I took a pic of all six for size comparison. The blue tote and the black messenger bag each have a standard-sized white binder inside them, vertically in the tote and horizontally in the messenger bag. You can also see how they compare in side to each other.
[close]

The messenger bag is definitely a keeper, and I'm debating as to whether I'd look stupid carrying the lime green one. I really like it, but I'm not sure that it's 'me'.

World of Conflict came out yesterday?  I may have to grab that, though I have already gamed up for the week.

That said, Eternal Sonata appears to be terrible, terrible animu cutesy crap, so that one may not be long for my collection.  It's not Blue Dragon, DQ-infused animu-y, it is syrupy animu engrossed in its own terrible art design, and at worst it thinks it's even MORE CUTE than it actually is, with precious voice overs about the wonderful colors in the world and what not.  It is nauseating garbage.

U MANLY MAN GRRR EAT BEEF!

I liked the demo, I will give it a spin tonight. Im not sure why anyone would buy eternal sonata if they dont like the look or concept in general, I mean the cover art gives all the character designs and plot away. That should be a telling enough sign.
