A somewhat technical question re: XBL
« on: October 04, 2006, 01:42:58 AM »
My friend and I, the MAF to my Drinky, have been playing XBL for years now. I mean we played Phantom Dust religiously last year; BFFs, total. He used to live in San Diego, then he moved to North Carolina. He originally had a Cable connection - which is what I have - and though he was a little laggier than usual sometimes it was mostly all good.

But then he moved and got DSL, and now I can only connect to certain XBL games with him - and Phantom Dust is not one of them.  :'( :'(

I can connect with like MechAssault, Crimson Skies, Midtown Madness 3, Tetris Worlds... I think that's it? Oh and PGR2. And Wolfenstein, but he doesn't like that because his team kept killing him and calling him a fagunrt.

No connect on Spikeout, Phantom Dust, Blitz, Project Snowbound, Outlaw Golf 2, or DOA Online.

I just don't get it - why would some titles work fine, and others don't? Yes, I see the MS pattern in the ones that work but PD was a MS game in Japan and Tetris Worlds is THQ of all fucking people. Sega, well their shit never works so Spikeout doesn't surprise me.

Anyone have any suggestions? If I was to get DSL on my end, would we be able to connect?

Check both your routers -- especially his, since the problems started when he switched providers. Make sure port forwarding is on for the XBL ports (search microsoft.com), and consider cloning the MAC address of the Xbox on the router.

Yeah my problem with XBL was the mac address cloning shit. Once I set the router to do that everything was solved :D
