Yea, I'm hoping they tighten it up in the final release.
yeah but if you have a good connection you nearly never see it (whether it's aiming in the wrong direction or not firing at all).  it's better than most other shooters I've played.

Confession time:

Been up in Seattle playing Halo 3 all day at Microsoft's "Halo 3 Lock-In" party. Seventeen of us came up to play all day. (It was under NDA until we got back.)

Now we're off to the launch party at a Best Buy near the hotel and hand out loot.

Speaking of which....wow. Epic swag. More laters.

The game is good. Very, very, good.

Who the fuck is this guy?  I swear Ghaleon is some PR bot.

I just did like half the game on Legendary with one other person.

If one person finds the hidden skull, everyone gets the achievement.

I played through the first few levels in Normal last night, and I a little worried about the game's quality.  It seems like they have traded enemies that are difficult to kill in favor of large numbers of easy-to-kill enemies.  I'm concerned that the game hasn't really been balanced for singleplayer, and essentially assumes you will be in multiplayer co-op.  So many enemies are thrown at you at once, it feels like too much of a crapshoot.

On the road to Voi, there is a scenario where you are pinned down by a turret and stuck fighting what is probably 9-12 Brutes.  While you can kind of cheese your way through it in Normal, I have no idea how I'm supposed to get through something that ridiculous in Legendary (or if I'm even intended to do it alone).  Never in Halo's Normal mode have I been tempted to put the controller down and just say "This is bullshit"....but I'd say I experienced that a couple times last night.

The decision to limit you to 2 grenades of each type is annoying as well.  I'm not even sure what the new grenade is supposed to be for, but I'd gladly trade it for 2 more plasma grenades in my inventory.  In general it seems like you either have more grenades than you know what to do with or you can't find any at all -- supplies aren't replenished with the regularity they were in previous games.

Fighting Brutes just isn't as satisfying as fighting Elites.  Do Elites ever come back, or am I stuck with the power-armored monkey men?

Just picked up the Reg Edition.  I was going to pick up the Collector's Tin Edition, but I remembered the thing about the discs popping off and scratching so I picked each tin up to check.  Out of the dozen or so LE that my Best Buy had, every single one had a loose disc bouncing around inside the case.  I think that's going to turn into a big deal.  MS is probably going to have to do some sort of replacement on those.

7-11 didn't have it last night! WTF! I went at 12:01 like instructed only to wait 20 minutes to be told that they "oversold" at the warehouse and our store wouldn't be getting any copies until tomorrow.

Thankfully there were only 4-5 of us and no one went on a rampage or even voiced complaint. We all simply walked out peacefully to return tomorrow.

i dunno.  i started my campaign on Normal and some of the Brutes (the ones with the big ass fucking hammer) are fun as fuck to fight.  The SP reminds me so much of Halo 1  omg <3  Also, multi was fun as fuck too with the shield grenades and shit.  awesome

All you pussies and Normal. I played up to level 5 or so on Legendary with Luciverse. We didn't have any trouble, except for a couple spots. But we prevailed, cause we rock.

Got my copy. Lord knows why - I find Halo mildly entertaining, and hate Halo 2's very core. Yet here I am, giving it a go again.

The music is really odd. Almost every piece I've heard is completely out of place.

I'll be in the middle of a firefight, and all I hear is this serene music... um... I'm at war, I should be getting pumped as fucked.

There's one part where it plays the Halo theme and you're jumping around dodging tank shells, hopping on and plunging a grenade in them. That's the type of feeling you should be getting.

This was on Legendary too btw, so it's all the more satisfying.

What's cool is if someone picks up the hidden skull, everyone gets the achievement. Luciverse knows where they are so I just let him go get it, haha.

Halo music sucks.  The closest thing to it is Mannheim Steamroller.

I like the opening theme, tho.

Eh, first impression is kinda meh.  I am sure the game gets better.  I mean, the videogame press isn't so crooked that it would give something merely good such ejaculative reviews.

Right now, my primary concern is graphics.  Halo HD was right.  The only really significant upgrade the visuals have gotten, aside from stable HD resolution, is in the lighting model and in reflections.  Overall, that's a pretty minor part of Halo, and totally not influential on gameplay.  Having the opening level be a jungle emphasizes the lighting (and water effects), but when we get to "classic" Halo levels, like wide open outdoors on a planet, or in samey looking corridors, none of those upgrades matter.  Also, there's absolutely no justifiable excuse for not having GOOD, like BULLSHOT QUALITY AA on this game.  It's not jaggie or anything, but the lack of AA is noticeable.

Coming off of the year-old Gears a few days ago to this is a massive, massive downgrade.  Couldn't Bungie get someone to help them out?  It's basically the biggest game in the world, but you wouldn't know that by looking at it.  It's not even in the same ballpark as Gears.  Fuck, ballparks shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Halo 3 and Gears.  Another fuck:  for the environments it features, Resistance is at least as impressive visually.

Come on, Bungie, graphics are the EASIEST thing to get right, and they are 100% of what makes a first impression.  Outta be ashamed.

i dunno if i agree. the modeling and textures are very much "halo hd", but the water physics and lighting model are really top notch, and the hdr/bloom is really well implemented. the lack of AA is really dubious, though. still, the art direction in terms of environment design and color palette seems great so far. if anything ever deserved the overused term "mixed bag", halo 3's visuals do.

Water physics and awesome lighting won't mean anything on most of the levels.  Halo is famous for its big, wide-open levels, overlit, meaning fancy lighting doesn't mean squat.  And it's not like water is ubiquitous in any game that isn't built around it, like Bioshock.  I really doubt Halo is going to turn into Bioshock.

I will stop bitching though.  At least until I get a few levels under my belt.
