PSP-2000 Pictures and TV-Out Screenshots, taken by me.
« on: September 22, 2007, 02:39:11 AM »
The box.  I think it looks a lot nicer than the American packaging, but it's just a box and it doesn't matter after you open it.

The back of the system is smooth and glossy.

Size comparison.  The PSP is definitely slimmer, but not by too much.

The WLAN switch has been moved to the top of the unit.

The screen seems a little bit sharper now.  Colors seem a bit brighter too.

The UMD slot is now opened by hand; the switch has been removed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TV-Out:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The XMB interface and movies are full screen.  Games are not.

Movies are near-DVD quality and look very good.  Sound quality is excellent.  Finally a reason to buy those cheap UMD movies.

Tomb Raider Anniversary featuring Lara's backside.

Parodius.  2D games generally look better blown up on the big screen than 3D games do.

Spectral Vs. Generation.

A replay in Ridge Racers 2.

Guilty Gear XX Slash looks fantastic blown-up.

Playing Tekken Dark Resurrection on TV is like playing an amazing PSOne port of the game.  This is the kind of game you stick to playing on the PSP screen...

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus looks great!

Marvel Vs. Capcom running on the CPS2 emulator.  Works flawlessly on TV out.

Thanks for the pics.  Unfortunately, they confirm what I said about PSP games belonging only on the PSP screen.

MVC2 on the PSP is awesome though.  How did you hack it?  Do you still need a copy of Lumines?

Keep in mind that my camera isn't the best, and that these pics have also been blown up.

Plus, look at this:

That looks fantastic on my TV screen.  TV-out is great for games where you're going to be spending a lot of time at home playing them, and MGS definitely fits that description.  I'm going to go and get a PSP internet dongle so I can play it online, too.  I wonder how the browser looks on TV...

It's MvC1, not 2.

To hack a slim, you need to use the Pandora's Battery downgrader plus some new files.  You have to have an older hacked PSP to create the files and the battery for this to work.

Demi told me the battery trick doesn't work.  That fuking taco liar.   :maf

Snake looks pretty good but the jaggies of the background are more enhanced on the bigger screen.  How do the drawn cut-scenes look on the bigger screen?

CAN'T TRUST DEMI CONFIRMED

It's not the standard battery trick though.  You don't actually downgrade, but make use of some of the files and battery together with new files for it to work.

I don't know; let me get to one and find out.  :)

im more interested in playing old games than ps3 games

I had a psp and sold it from boredom. Slim interests me with the added memory for emulators and tv out, however.

:(  You're completely right about that.  Even a tech geek like me can't argue that the inferior tech of the PSP has produced far better games so far.

Yeah Viz, PSP homebrew is fucking great, BUT slim doesn't support everything yet.

There have certainly been games I've enjoyed, but when I really think about the past few years, pretty much all my favorite games have been Playstation 2, PSP, or DS titles.  This gen is not as good as the last, IMO.  Not yet, anyway.

what is the size and rez of your display...?

When I play games using the cables on my TV the letterbox efect is much more severe.

The XMB displays full screen....when I launch a game - the PSP splashscreen has the letterboxing you show above - but then when I actually get into the game the thing is so small in the middle of my screen id say it only uses 50% of the screen display area.

The games do look great tho - I tested SEGA Genesis collection, U GnG, Ratchet and Clank and Socom FTB(online with the PSP headset ;))

I have a smaller-sized TV...Sony Bravia 20 inch...Goes up to 720p and 1080i.

The browser isnt that good on the screen. I wouldnt bother.

There are various USB connectors you simply plug into a PC to get online with a DS or PSP with.  I have the official Nintendo wi-fi connector and it works flawlessly with both my DS and Wii.  No wireless router needed; these are like mini hotspots you can use.

The browser is just for shits and giggles.  Actually I've never seen the PSP browser in action before...my PSP went online like once before.

holy fucking shit lyte edge! :bow THANKS!!!

Uh, it didn't [at the time], dummy.

Team M33 toyed with it and made their own variant. Now it works if you follow their instructions.

Check the download section at http://www.qj.net/index.php.  Make sure you get the emulators ported by Ahman to the Slim PSP if that's what you're using.  Let me know if you need any help getting games running.  There are still a few titles I have not been able to get running for some reason on these builds.

Oh, and there is NO FUCKING QUESTION in my mind now: Sony definitely improved the PSP-2000 screen.  The emulators really show off how much more vibrant it is now.
