So, uh, portable gaming is really taking off.

It seems each year that I've gone to TGS, the mobile games section grows more and more.  I avoid it every year because mobile phone games invariably look like shit, but this year it was undeniable - this is a major part of the Tokyo Game Show, and a market that's not just viable, but growing.  I don't think mobile games are gonna supplant the PSP or the DS anytime soon, but I can definitely see them complementing portables.  I'm actually a bit worried that, in Japan at least, the focus is going to turn to these types of games - we've already seen a big franchise go to the DS for its latest installment (Dragon Quest IX).

Will we be relying mostly on Western developers for console gaming in the future, I wonder? :/

i can't understand how someone could play on a cellphone for extended periods of time. if i have nothing to do i can try it for 5 mins, but anymore is overkill. i wish all those games would flop.

It's been going on for some years now.  I had a House Of The Dead 3D shooter that worked by moving the phone around to turn around two years ago.  It sucked and ran at like 5fps, but it was kind of impressive.  For about two minutes.

It's pretty different in the west. People only play like Solitaire and Tetris on their phones here. You can get shit like Mega Man, Sonic..etc on them but I don't know anyone who does.

My friend has a Rambo game on his cell which plays like the Commodore 64 Rambo 3 game except heaps friggn worse. The title screen is really cool though, a giant Rambo sprite fires his gun for a bit
