Saturday Food Thread

What did you chow down on today?

For those who were reading my burger vs chinese thread yesterday, I finally decided on a Chili's burger.  Chinese was just too greasy and had too much carbs.  I didn't want to take a long afternoon nap.

Today, I got a burger again for dinner because my friends wanted to go to Red Robin's.  I checked out the menu for someting else but a burger still looked like the best option.  Luckily, the Red Robin's burger still tasted great despite the fact that I just had a burger so recently.  I got a Royal Red Robin which is basically a cheeseburger with a fried egg and bacons.  It costs a little more than Chili's but what I had today tasted much better.   I also got a bowl of French Onion and most of a gigantic Mudd Pie so I'm now completely stuffed.  Getting food coma on a Saturday's almost starting to become a regular routine.

Yesterday I found an Outback Steakhouse, which is a rarity over here...I looked over the menu, figuring that they had changed everything to lame Japanese food like every other restaurant franchise I've seen over here, but to my surprise, it seemed mostly intact (they had the blooming onion and everything!).  I was soooo tempted to go and eat there, but I was by myself and there's no way I can finish a blooming onion PLUS a hamburger all by myself.  It's really far away from where I live so I doubt I'll have the chance to go there again either. :(

I just ended up having a burger at a fast food place.  :'(

How did you find it if it was so far away?  The onion is good but I haven't tried a burger there before.  I really like the prime rib there too.

So how much did it cost total to go to TGS?  Thanks for the pics btw.  It looked very much like E3.  The main difference is that E3 had more big TVs and the lines for most games are much shorter.  It was kinda surprising to see so many people in the 360 area.

To keep this on topic, how was the food at TGS?  Food's usually overpriced and terrible tasting at E3.

I did a lamb roast two nights ago that was sexcellent, and today carved up the leftovers and made a sandwich :drool

Sounds yummy.  Can you describe in more detail how it was made?

TGS tickets are 1,200 yen (ten US dollars).  Counting the return trip, the train cost me about twelve bucks?  So $22 overall?  I didn't eat in TGS because the food seemed overpriced for what it was - it was mostly Japanese food.  Yakisoba, omurice, ramen...and they were selling soda and chicken as well.  Last year when I went to TGS they had a KFC booth, but not this year.

Had pancakes, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast. Definitely the best pancakes I've ever made. I used Aunt Jemima this time instead of the Butterquik or whatever it's called. For the eggs I sprinkled some grated Mexican cheese on top of them in the skillet. Finally I used the George Foreman grill to do the potatoes. It was a great afternoon breakfast, finished right on time so I could watch OUATITW on AMC

I went out to lunch with vamp girl and her friend Kristen. Eh I missed most of the Michigan game because of this, but she really wanted to go so I didn't say no. It was this small place called Oasis; wide range of foods. I had a caeser salad and a sub lol. Not bad. I just wish Kristen wasn't there :-\

And about an hour ago I made a slushy out of some V8 Splash

Today was grill day!

I whipped up six full kebobs with the following ingredients:

Lab leg sirloin, cubed from the steak myself.
NY strip, also cut by myself.
Yellow pepper
Orange pepper
Sweet Onion
Zucchini
Pineapple
Cremini mushrooms

Let everything marinate in a mixture of half a dozen cloves of garlic through my press, some leftover reisling, and some olive oil for an "whatever is in the fridge" marinade.

Sides were grilled corn on the cob and grilled pineapple.

The accompanying beer was Redbach, a 75/25 combination beer of Rodenbach Ale and 100% cherry juice. I actually like it better than most Kriek beers.

I didn't know we had so many culinary experts in this forum.  Your tastes in food are just as good as your tastes in games.  Grilled pineapples are awesome.  A grilled pineapple compliments a piece of meat very well.

I made a frittata yesterday. Just caramelized some onions with a spot of honey, satueed the 'taters with them, added the tomatoes at the last moment and finished the deal off with some bacon and a green onion cheddar cheese. Eggs, bake and serve! Good stuff. I hardly have time to cook now that I'm working all the time, so it's nice to be able to whip up something with a bit of dignity now and again.
