Don't know if anyone has ever had this happen to them but I caught myself mid dreaming. Its like having a life shattering a epiphany...I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it right now...

Basically, it started out like any dream, don't know when I actually fell asleep I just did. I went to see some movie theater and some random things occurred, saw some familiar faces and some not so much (but interacted with them like I knew them for years).

I then blanked out and started walking in some unknown community, to some apartment building and open the door (guess I lived there). I started walking up the steps and took a turn to the right around the banister and looked at the table to my left. Thats when I realized everything was wrong, this isn't my life and I remember saying exactly this to myself "this must be a dream?". I started to feel a rushing feeling in my body and then appeared in some bedroom (not my actual bedroom) for a few seconds. After that I snapped back to reality...

I'm still reeling over that sensation.

Lucid dreaming is something you can actually train yourself to do if you really focus on it for a few weeks. I've personally only done it a handful of times, as soon as I realize I'm doing something physically impossible, like flying, I realize it's a dream and I wake up pretty much immediately.

My father is really good at it... he has them all the time and can sort of "will" himself to stay asleep even after he's realized he's dreaming. He can actually stay in the dream while walking around and knowing that all of it is not real. Pretty cool stuff.

Google "lucid dreaming," you'll get a lot of neat sites and tips to improve lucid dreaming. It's really fascinating.

I dreamt the other night my mom owned this boat, and I stole it every night and in the morning would pretend I found it and she would give me 50 bux. So I kept stealing the boat.

I actually have read up on that (and out of body experiences etc)

The problem is, I've never been able to willfully have one and they happen very rarely. This is the first one I've had in a long while. This dream though, was one the most powerful ones I've felt. I've never questioned myself like that in dream, I usually just realize I'm dreaming than wake up.

Another thing too is that I was dabbling with Deep Meditation and following some *Hemi-Sync courses about 2 months ago and I kid you not, I've literally dreamed pretty much every night since.

*The Hemi-Sync course I downloaded Online. They go for over $1000 but I'm not about to spend that much money on it. Its essentially  a course to help with deep meditation and OBEs. Teaches you how to center yourself and how to bring you to the brink of sleep while staying conscience etc. Its pretty awesome.

The last one I had, I was in some gigantic mall that had been built connected to an airport, and I accidentally left my wallet on a bench. In the dream I went back to the mall 2 days later, realizing I had left my wallet there, and it was still sitting on the bench exactly where I had left it. I remember thinking "No, someone would have taken this, I have gotta be dreaming." When I realized that I woke up, though. :-\ :'(

From what I've read in the past over the years, the main steps to achieving a "Lucid Dream" are to

1. Log your dreams in a journal every day

2. Think about a "trigger" or something that you will see in the dream and make you realize your dreaming

...and thats about it.

Its a real interesting phenomena. Its like a natural Virtual Reality.

What I find semi creepy is how in the dream scape you interact with foreign things and people that you've never met before so casually as if you've known them before. Its like every time you go to sleep you lead a different life. It can be explained away by saying its just different scenarios your sub conscience shoots out and it knows no better but its very interesting.
