Gay? Well you don't live in Iran.
« on: September 24, 2007, 08:29:17 PM »
CUZ THEY DONT HAVE EM!

Quote
'We don't have homosexuals'
Asked about executions of homosexuals in Iran, Ahmadinejad said the judiciary system executed violent criminals and high-level drug dealers, comparing them to microbes eliminated through medical treatment. Pressed specifically about punishment of homosexuals, he said: “In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country.”

With the audience laughing derisively, he continued: “In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don’t know who’s told you that we have this.”

If there had been a gay holocaust this guy's head would implode in the sudden rush of absolute denial.

I knew a transexual from IRan once.

They all like to move to America because Iran is in gay denial and its not accepted in public.

Eh, he's not in charge.

I don't think many people "got" what he was saying. Gays are jailed and murdered in Iran. Sort of like if Hitler said there were no jews in Germany. Not that I'm comparing the two...

My problem with this whole issue is the double standard. It's not ok for the ROTC to be on campus, or the minuteman guy...but a dictator who supports terrorism is A OK. That's puzzling to me.

Why is it different with the minuteman leader? He was denied the ability to speak there despite being asked to by students.

The ROTC was denied access to campus because of political reasons, yet this guy is allowed? Come on

Ah, so we agree. I have nothing against his presence there per se - I just say don't be hypocritical.

With respect to the Minuteman dude - he was allowed to appear, but a bunch of students charged the stage and sabotaged the entire thing like a bunch of fascists. They might as well have burned some books

There's a lot of gays in iran (proportionally).  And Ahmadinejad isn't the leader.  Khomeini is.  Ahmadinejad is just a figurehead.

idiot.

what kind of message does it send when you don't let the president of iran speak at a university?

Is this an honest question? :lol

I think you've missed the point good sir. Denying this guy a platform would have no consequences, and as I said I'm more upset with the double standard.

arguably, the rotc folks are there to recruit moreso than speak, and the community doesn't want recruiters. it doesn't excuse the double standard, since ultimately both ahmadinejad and the rotc guy are propaganda speakers, but the rotc guy is someone with immediate influence on their community values.

What does ROTC usually do on campuses?  RECRUIT.  President of Iran?  We don't really know.  You want to slap him in the face and you're pissing off his entire country for no good reason.

Much of his country doesn't even support him, and once again he's not in charge of Iran. I wouldn't even be concerned about slapping a holocaust denying bastard by not letting him speak.

I have a feeling you'd have an entirely different opinion if this was Bush not being allowed to speak at some foreign university

I think there's a difference between simply not inviting someone to speak, and disinviting them, once the invitation has been extended (this goes for Amaninajar as well).  Or, in the case of the ROTC folks, who (even though I've barely been keeping track of the issue) should have as much of a right to recruit / speak about their organization as any other campus group, and not be banned on the grounds that people OMG JUST NOW remembered the whole "don't ask don't tell" thing, which of course has absolutely nothing to do with an anti-war, anti-Bush, etc ideology, and therefore isn't hypocritical.

Of course, as this thread shows, it's not like the President of Iran has enlightened views about homosexuality either...

I heard that sex changes and stuff are actually pretty popular in iran.

in iran, people don't like him.  none of my friends/relatives like him and they all openly admit it doesn't matter.  the president doesn't do anything.  outside of iran, he's pretty popular because he basically likes to piss off the west.  inviting him, both because he's a president and because he has very controversial views, is good for starting diplomacy and cooling relations with the middle-east instead of invading and going all apeshit for halliburton.

How is inviting the president of Iran to speak at a university a step for "diplomacy"? You do realize Colombia U doesn't matter, and the Bush administration refuses to talk with them. It was nothing more than a stunt. I heard one of the students say they wanted to "debate him and show him not everyone agrees with him, and maybe change his mind." Yeah, right.

Considering he dodged nearly every question, and the uni president kept attacking him...I doubt he changed his mind on anything

by your logic it doesn't make sense for the ROTC to speak on campus if most of the students don't want to join the military.

Huh?

If someone wants to speak on campus, fine. I've made that clear. My problem here is with the blatant hypocrisy that the university showed.

there's a difference between being wrong and denying the holocaust.

you have to realize having a figurehead with vastly different cultural views is possibly more interesting to university students than a guy telling you of a great way to pay for your college education!

and believe it or not, america having less hate for iran (news channels had iranian correspondents talking shit about him shortly after) is going to have a positive effect.
