I ask myself "why did no one tell me about this band" but then I remember, someone did. Cajole introduced me to this band and I'm impressed. They sound like Radiohead but with more melody and harder guitars. And a little Freddy mixed in for good measure. VERY impressed.

They're a good ole ROCK band, something we can't say about many bands today. I love guitar driven rock like this and the Foo Fighters. And the Black Keys are awesome btw. They all deserve love.

I heard them on the radio the other day and thought "why the fuck is EB so obsessed with them?" and then moved on to another station.

Good job PD. :D

I'd say just start with Origin of Symmetry. I listened to Absolution first, but got Origin of Symmetry very shortly after.

Black Holes & Revelations is what I started with. After that I moved onto Absolution. I still haven't started listening to Origin of Symmetry yet because I've been listening to those other 2 albums so much.

The whole album is just damn solid. The highlights for me would be New Born, Plug In Baby, Bliss, Dark Shines, and the first half of Citizen Erased. Micro Cuts is fun just because of Bellamy's ridiculous singing.

I'm from England so I've been exposed to them since Showbiz.

Showbiz came out here in North America, they were on Madonna's Maverick label. Muscle Museum had a good amount of radio play in Seattle. I bought it the day it came out and even saw them live on their first US tour.

lol, ok, I apologize.  I thought their second-to-last record was pretty frickin' good, though, and their mid nineties output was excellent.  Atomic Bomb and Pop are pretty shite, tho.

I guess my problem with the new stuff is that it's just so...generic to me. Bono does so much good around the world, every artist loves them, etc. They work to change the world, which is pretty damn cool and exciting, yet their new music doesn't share that energy to me. Atomic Bomb is like run of the mill top 40 rock to me. Oh well

I miss the days when they had something to say. Bullet the Blue Sky featured a level of intelligence and relevance not seen in most political music today; it's sad that what was once rebel music is now a logo on a t shirt, or a fad  :'(

I dunno about infant dome but my parent's kitten has a very good smelling head. It always confuses me because the rest of her body smells like a typical cat, but the top of her head smells like perfume or something.  :lol

I want to see U2 innovate music, and really say something relevant instead of generic conscious lyrics. I remember seeing a greatest rock bands countdown on VH1 and someone said "The Clash are the band that U2 wishes they were." I really agree with that

FREEDOM HAS A SCENT

LIKE THE TOP OF PHOENIX DARK'S PARENTS' KITTEN'S HEAD

NOT THE REST OF THE BODY THAT JUST SMELLS LIKE REGULAR CAT

THE HEAD SMELLS LIKE PERFUME THO

WHICH IS THE SMELL OF FREEDOM

I dunno, doesn't work for me either. :lol

I was fine with u2 until they became a Tomb Raider band and started making more marketable stuff so they could be on MTV again.  Bono said something like "It's time rock takes back MTV!" and I felt like saying, Lad, let that ship go, its full of barnacles, botox and bastards.

I don't understand how anyone can hate on a band with such top-tier musicianship and musical sensibilities as Muse, but this board never fails to surprise.

Top-tier muscianship doesn't automatically translate into top-tier music. Most of the time it translates to masturbatory snore fests.

I hate when people say "x can't sing", a charge usually based on them not liking the singer's voice. Of course he can fucking sing. He has a strong, versatile voice as well. I can understand why his voice might annoy some folks, sure. But saying he can't sing is almost as dumb as saying John Mayer can't play the guitar - another dumbass complaint from distinguished mentally-challenged fellows

Placebo were awesome when I was in high school with their first two albums, and Sleeping with Ghosts and Black Market Music were fun, too. However, the direction they've taken since releasing Meds a couple years ago is horrible.

Muse are amazing. A rock band who are all fantasticly skilled musicians is something of a rarity these days and these guys really nail it. Seeing them live last summer was one of the best music experiences I've ever had. Plug-In Baby and New Born are probably my favourite tracks from them.

What I like about Muse:

1. Kickass songs that were incorporating some nice electronic stuff, including elements that make me recall videogames going back to ze 90s
2. Great in concert
3. Upsets those that lack the qualities needed to have taste, so they just define themselves through a arbitrary pretentious and temporal anti-club club.
4. they're just good

FatalT -

Yeah, this is something I got over very early in my life. My tastes from age 12 on (70's rock, '60's pop) were so hopelessly uncool during the '80s that I had to stop caring what other people thought very quickly just to stay sane. Now it's perfectly fine to like Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, it seems but at that point, it was social death. Who the fuck cares. I always listened to a whole bunch of stuff, but people choose to define you by the most non-conformist stuff in your collection. It is possible to like an album of show tunes without being a screaming cigarillo. Ditto with metal and punk and classical and jazz. But back then, if you liked Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple, it was assumed you lacked the capacity or curiosity to like anything else.

Now that everyone can easily build up insane collections of music, people have got a lot more open to liking more than one type of music, I think. If you can only afford one album a month, the choice between Led Zeppelin and the Smiths becomes a defining character moment for a mopey teen in search of a social group to bond to. I like Muse, but they represent a fraction of 1% of my music collection. I don't feel any need to go to war on their behalf.

Hopefully the same mind-opening process will happen with games too, once we get rid of the hardware allegiance mindset.

Well I've heard them a few times and wanted to rip my ears off, but I guess I can see that people like 'em, and they're respected in that genre...I guess, I don't know, I don't know shit about metal.
