is pretty awesome. I wish there was some better direction sometimes, it feels open ended until you realize that actually you have no idea where to go. I like monster taming, but it's expensive to equip them and without any kind of guidance as to which ones are great and which ones are balls it feels a little silly.

I'm a sucker for the really simple turn based stuff, but this seems like a much easier DQ than I'm used to. DQ, uh, 8, the PS2 one, was incredibly difficult. This one is a breeze so far.

Hmmm... I actually thought DQ5 was a bit more difficult than 8, granted 5 isn't nearly as hard as 2 or 6, but there are some fairly tough dungeons towards the end. For monsters, well, you can level up them all, which ones are stronger are based on how they are in the game... obviously Slalin the slime is the weakest. One of the best monsters to get at a fairly early stage in the game is of course the hoimi/heal slime.

By the end of the game, you'll have mostly humans in your party so you don't need to rely on monsters too much

DQV is fucking easy. I'm near the end of the game and I've had 2 wipe outs. this past weekend I fired up VIII for a bit and it was considerably harder.
