First Review of Blade Runner: The Final Cut
« on: October 02, 2007, 10:34:17 AM »
The cut sounds AMAZING. Scott even cut things out of the movie from the DC. It is totally not a Lucas-SE type of deal it seems.

It's that not far away. Hits DVD/Blu-ray/HD-DVD in December.

Wait Bud. I've read a couple more reviews today (not just lololol internets sites, but "real" critics like the NY Times..etc) and all seem to agree that the new cut is by far and away better than the DC. I wonder why they all got to see it so early though.

I hope its great - its the only cut Im buying. I dont have the time (nor do I want to waste the cash) on the uber 5 disc briefcase thingie. Im gonna stick with my existing DC, and buy the solo version of the Final Cut.

I'm still stunned that you can get the 5-disc Blu-ray/HD-DVD set for $29.99 a Amazon. It's not a price mistake, that's the actual price of it.

It's actually $27.95 ($39.99 MSRP)

http://www.amazon.com/Runner-Five-Disc-Complete-Collectors-Blu-ray/dp/B000UBMWG4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4/103-2014142-9303060?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1191355127&sr=8-4

Now, this isn't the super nerdy briefcase version with all the extra frivolous crap. It's just the disc content (same as the nerdy briefcase edition).

i'll probably get the 2 disc s.e. or the 5 disc c.e. on blu-ray.  even if i don't like it, i'll atleast have another classic movie in my collection, or something.

I should embrace my Evilborian status and purchase the Blu-ray or HD-DVD even though I don't even have a player for either.

I actually did that way back when before I bought a DVD player. I had something like 15 DVDs before I got my player. Id actually be doing the exact same thing right now if it werent for the goddamn format war. Otherwise, Id have bought quite a few HD-DVDs or BRDs by now.

You can't beat a 5-disc Blu-ray set for only $28.

Really? I might have picked up the briefcase back in college, but now I've got to think about saving space. That, and I'd end up never using any of the extra crap...

Same here, which is why I'm going for the $28 version instead of the $65 version. Why waste ~$40 on stuff I have no need for?

I could use that $40 to buy another movie or game, though! It's not like I'm actually saving it!

I bought South Park: BLU when I only had a DVD-rom drive in my PC (spring 1999), but I bought Fight Club, Magnolia and Terminator 2 when I got my stand alone DVD player in the summer of 1999.

I want the super cut, but for the most part, I really don't like special, oversized packaging.  I have like 4 or 5 DVD sets with special packaging, and they more than take up the top of my DVD shelf, which is basically my spot for specia, oversized DVD shit.

We shall see.  5 discs for 30 will probably make me overcome this little bias.

How rare is the 5-disc set projected to be?  I mean, is it a limited print?  I would love to hold off and grab this for BRD whenever I get around to getting a suitable TV, but if it's going to take effort to find -- fuck it, i'll get the DVDs.

It's nice that the 5-disc Blu-ray/HD-DVD/DVD release has the exact same DISC CONTENTS as the briefcase version.

The 5-disc set isn't limited. The briefcase 5-disc set, however, is limited to a certain number. Both have the same disc content.

There's no DVD 5-disc set, right?

Like RoboJ, I'm just going to hold off for one of the hi-def set, then.

As for the theatrical release...I doubt I'll be able to find a friend willing to trek into the city to see it with me.  :(

I'm getting the DVD briefcase.  The extras look cool, it's just too bad it won't fit on my DVD shelf.
