tomorrow i am going to 2 of the famous castles of ludwig II in germany with my friend:

castle neuschwanstein, which is the most photographed building in germany. it has served as the inspiration for countless fairytale castles, and was the model for cinderella's castle in walt disney world.

and also hohenschwangau which is a little less badass, but is still pretty awesome. ludwig grew up here:

has anyone else ever been to either one of these castles? i am super excited.

Nope, never been. I wonder if they are available for rent, like for ceremonies and stuff.

they don't even let you go in there without a guide, take pics of the inside, or have a purse with you. really kinda sucks, i hope i can get some good pics of the outside.

That sucks but I understand. Have you ever been to an old cave with stalagtites and stalagmites? They have guides there too to keep you from touching things. Apparently flashes can damage the color of things inside too, I guess if you let thousands of people take pics over time it's bad. It's one of the drawbacks of the more famous destinations, with that many people moving through they have to take precautions to preserve the attraction.

It looks like that because it's probably a photochrom, a photo colorized with color lithography.

The Library of Congress as a boatload of them archived on their website.

That looks awesome! The only "castle" I've been to was Herbst Castle, but it kind of sucks. :-/ (Don't ever go there - total waste of money and travel time.)

It's probably more due to the fact some company\trust owns the rights to take pictures of the castle.

well here are a few pics... i took a lot more, and a lot of close ups of the castles and scenery, but i'll post them later.

unfortunately, it was an extremely foggy day, so you can't see a whole lot of landscape in the photos. usually you can see for many miles, especially from the walking bridge.
