It's one of those surveys with fifty questions that all ask the same three questions in a billion different ways.  If I don't absolutely flunk it, I should have an offer tendered by Friday.  But it seems like such a waste!

It's probably like the dumb test that quarterbacks have to take before getting drafted.

Quarterbacking has little to do with intelligence.  It doesn't take much brain power to see the open guy and then pass it to him.   It's really annoying how people always try to make Football seem much more intellectual than it really is.

Well it has more to do with reading the defense and knowing your own offense. You need some mental capacity to do that, but it's not math

Tom Brady's Wonderlic score was 33 (translates into a 126 IQ). Meanwhile Marcus Vick's Wonderlic was 11.

I rest my case.

Brady is the greatest to ever play the position. You can't compare him to anyone  :bow :wag

Back on topic, it's to basically to see how you fit with the company. The idea is to see if you're honest or not, a team player or a maverick, a gogetter or a que sera, sera type. Just be glad there's only 50 questions and not like 150. :/

Then how come I suck ass at QB when I can score higher than Brady on that test?  I could throw up to 50yrds or so but I'm not accurate and it's especially worse when people are chasing me.  That was just flag football with some semi-athletic people.  The pace is so fast in the NFL that I don't even think there's much time to think.  Instincts and atheleticism are probably more important.  Terry Bradshaw was supposed to be pretty dumb but he won 4 Superbowls.

With that kind of logic I don't see how you could even do better than me, let alone a god like Tom Brady. Intelligence is not sufficient. However it is an asset, all things being equal. If I said that height was an asset when it came to playing the power forward position and you were 6' 9" would you then ask me why you weren't a successful NBA power forward?

Reaction time is positively correlated with intelligence. And so is working memory for that matter (a QB does have to keep a lot of information in his head at once).

Terry Bradshaw was supposed to be pretty dumb but he won 4 Superbowls.

And during his career he completed just over half his passes and threw about as many interceptions as he did touchdowns.  Maybe if he had Tom Brady’s brain he would have thrown the ball to his teammates more often.

Bradshaw was smart enough to ride the Steel Curtain to those Super Bowls though.

Good one.  :lol  But my point was that I sucked at QB even against normal people.  Obviously, just being able to score high on that kind of test won't make me a good QB in the NFL.

So Bradshaw wasn't the best example to use, since his championships obscured his ordainary stats, but what about Drew Bledsoe?  Drew supposedly scored even higher than Tom Brady and he was known for making stupid mistakes.

Then how come so many top basketball stars aren't very smart?  Basketball requires reaction time just as much as any other sport.  I've also seen plenty of dumb people on the playground courts with quick reaction times.  I guess you could say that those people just didn't apply themselves academically but I kinda doubt that more effort from them in that area would have made much of a difference.  With regards to memory, even someone that scored as low as Vince Young seems to have no problems remembering his plays so I doubt it's as difficult as it seems.

I'm not saying that there's no mental component to being successful in sports but I just think that intelligence is overrated.  I would place confidence and determination ahead of intelligence as mental attributes that would lead to success in sports.

While an average football player usually scores around 20 points, The Wonderlic, Inc claims a score of at least 10 points suggests a person is literate [4]. Furthermore, when the test was given to miscellaneous people of various professions, it was observed that the average participant scored a 24. Examples of scores from everyday professions included,
Chemist - 31
Programmer - 29
Newswriter - 26
Sales - 24
Bank teller - 22
Clerical Worker - 21
Security Guard - 17
Warehouse - 15

This assessment roughly corresponds to examples from Paul Zimmerman's The New Thinking Man's Guide to Pro Football. According to Zimmerman, examples of average scores include for each position,
Offensive Tackle - 26
Center - 25
Quarterback - 24
Guard - 23
Tight End - 22
Safety - 19
Linebacker - 19
Cornerback - 18
Wide receiver - 17
Fullback - 17
Halfback - 16

So if it takes an 11 to work at a warehouse where does that leave vince young?

INDIANAPOLIS — Vince Young's horribly low score on the Wonderlic intelligence test — reportedly 6 of a possible 50 — has given teams at the top of the NFL Draft plenty of extra work to do. It also might end up changing how the picks fall at the top of the first round.

 :lol :lol :lol :lol

I went to Texas and live in Austin though. I dont really care what his score is.

Agreed. "Intelligence is not sufficient."

Brady took the test in two minutes. He spent the rest of the ten minutes having sex with super models. Look, obviously other things are important--like speed, height, athleticism, arm strength, hard work, and personality traits. But if you are dumb you can not be a great QB.

Basketball requires quick reflexes, while quarter backing requires quick complex reaction times. Basketball players (not including point guards who are like quarterbacks on the court) don’t have to make decisions involving as much stimulus as a quarterback. 'Simple reaction time' does not correlate very much with intelligence.

Learning a playbook requires long term memory. Utilizing the play book at a given moment requires working memory. Two different things.

I agree with you last point.

I've had two hours of sleep since Saturday so I'm going to bed. Stupid night shift.

The pay is decent - more than I ever made as a slave wage graphic designer, they're going to be lenient with my hours to accommodate schooling and my freelancing and the new store will be much closer to home than the one I'm currently employed as a lowly ASM at.  The hours are pretty easy (it opens at 10 AM and closes by 9 PM, and you never stay there the whole day).  And I sell games.  It's a posh gig in terms of retail.
