VP2: Silmeria battle system is the best ever in any JRPG
« on: October 11, 2007, 03:03:52 AM »
goddamn do I love this battle system, not only is it action packed (zomg look a those cool looking combos!) but it also has that strategic edge that makes it even more fucking awesome. I love moving around the battle field... one of the reason why I liked DQ battle system a lot is the fact that you can move around and avoid taking damage, I think it's a nice way to reward the player for making good decisions.

the action is in this game is fucking badass, designing your own cool looking combos is so satisfying specially when you have full control of the action - it's like directing an awesome action scene. another thing I really like is how terrain enhances the battles, hit an enemy hard enough against a wall and it'll bounce off it, shit you can even make enemies get 'ring out' Soul Calibur style.

how awesome is the battle system of VP2? very awesome. there still some stuff they could fix or add, more characters/weapon variety for once, but jebus if all battle systems in JRPGs were this action packed I wouldn't mind grinding!

PS. the Seraphic Gate owns.

How long is it?  I picked it awhile back but I haven't really played much of it.  MAF also thinks very highly of VP2.

main game is 40-45 hours, with Seraphic Gate included hm.... could be up to 60 hours.

Seraphic Gate is the optional dungeon tho, it's not required.

BoF DQ vs VP2? Oh man thats a tear jerkin matchup ;_;

I sort of like BoF DQ's battle system more simple because its happening within the same environment. Both are absolutely fantastic and top tier Japa offerings.

I prefer Silmeria's battle system because of its fast paced action, but both are great.

the combo vids in youtube for Silmeria are fucking insane. so much awesomeness. makes up for the crappy quality of those vids.

I think BoFDQ has more depth in battles, in a tactical sense. While VP2 puts emphasis on the strategy taken prior to the dungeon or battle via skills and spheres which makes it plenty deep.

In short I think both take such different approaches to where the depth exists that they cant really be compared.

It didn't click from the brief play I had with it. Even though I would "dash" through an enemies cone thing, I would get caught somehow and still get beat up.

The skill system was just awkward.

I think I prefer the original's system. Simplicity works!

oh that reminds me, another thing they could fix for VP3 (if they actually make one) is getting stuck on these invisible objects when dashing. stuff like that rarely happens but it's annoying when it does happens, because you lose AP in the process.

I dont mind the skill system, in VP1 you needed only 2 skills. Guts+Auto Item. the skills in VP2 are a lot more balanced. I could see the equipment micromanagement annoying some people, doesn't bother me that much.

I can respect this. Maybe when I have time again (hahahahaha) I'll play VP2.
