I am slowly working my way through everything I missed. Fucking Puzzle Quest has me all distracted. And The Office! What a night, fellas.

Quickie thoughts:

Overlord is a ton of fun. The "feel" is dead on. The game has tons and tons of character, it reminds me of a lot of older English games (Simon the Sorcerer!). I'm not too far in yet but I wish it were slightly less linear. The "Quest" structure makes it seem like you'll be able to pursue goals at your leisure, but so far quests seem only to appear when they're ready to be completed, making it pointless altogether. I also wish the controls were slightly tighter. "Sweeping" over a wide space often turns my horde from a tightly knit gang of bloodthirsty dervishes into a scattered, easily killable gang of nitwit Gremlins. I suppose in some ways it's supposed to mimic the difficulty of commanding that many morons at once, but frequently it comes off as sloppy and loose.

Crackdown is fun. I wish there was more to it. That is all.

I sent back Crackdown without finishing it, seeing as how the ending couldn't be that interesting. You literally see everything the game has to offer in the first 45 seconds. It's fun enough, but also boring as shit after awhile. Pointless.

I still have Overlord, but the Blue Minion cave has me completely soured on the whole experience. I ended up wasting like 95 minions on the stupid Hydra thing and now I don't have enough to carry the hive (Not that they'd carry it in the first place) and I have to backtrack and grind the blue beetles to get enough. Ugh.

I felt burned out on Crackdown after a month or so, but it's a great game to pick up and play later on. I reversed my negative opinion on it just a few days ago, glad I never got rid of it.

I never was wholly negative about the game, anyway though. I loved it for two weeks, then I was just neutral for a long time.

One complaint I have is the later gangs are too damn hard (on medium difficulty) unless you're on co-op. It takes forever to creep through a base where you always get surrounded by respawning enemies, then you've gotta run back to it when you die. I don't know if I'm alone in that. I did the last 1/3 of the game long after anyone else wanted to play it, so I had to knock it down to easy.

i totally agree.

it gets ridiculous towards the end of the shai-gen game and then the russians are just fucking impossible by yourself. that's why i haven't beaten it.

Might be better to plan a session here on the board, since I tend to turn on my 360 to play Halo now that I've fully completed Crackdown. Though I might be re-activating the gangs to finish upgrading my shooting and strength.

Overlord is just. For every 20 minutes of fun I have, there are 10 minutes of excruciating, senseless misery. Stuff that could have been resolved with a little more polish.

Moist Caverns was the least fun I've had since that TMNT Dam+Bomb level. Ugh.

I'm glad I got it cheap. I never felt bad about tossing that one on the backlog pile after a week. It was a good, fun game, and it is still awesome to toss in and play it for a few hours, just fucking around, but you see all the environments in a day of playing, and you can have explored them all pretty well within like a week. :-/ I am kind of bummed they aren't doing a sequel, because aside from lack of content, it's almost a great fucking game.

At it's best it's B+. At it's worst, it's some terror from the deep, a Lovecraftian grade like cthuzlix-. It's really a lot of fun when it works, but it's far, far too easy to go from I AM THE INVINCIBLE OVERLORD to OH MY GOD ALL FORTY OF MINONS DIED FOR A REASON I COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAVE ANTICIPATED. Usually a wipeout isn't the player's fault, but a result of some precipitated and unexplained menace lurking just outside camera view.

There's a glitch where if you hit start and then quit out AFTER you hit forge and BEFORE any minions hop in the pot, you'll get the bonus and not lose the minions.
