i had imagined that this was some artsy geometry wars sort of thing, and i wasn't paying much attention. it's actually a brilliant synthesis of bangaioh and rez -- though who knows if jonathan mak has played bangaioh. it's like bangaioh in its profusion of tiny objects and its big stress-relieving chain explosions -- as the 'notes' suggest, you should play with the d-pad and face buttons rather than the sticks. the fine-grain dodging and level-based design are more like a japanese arcade shooter than geometry wars, which is rooted in early american arcade games. it's like rez in its synaesthesic effects -- the raw, warm guitar music sounds almost as if someone is playing in your room, and the effect is amazingly euphoric. buy it buy it buy it.
seems to lack online scoreboards, though. to which i say: wtf
