MAF's Folklore QuickFIRE OMG Initial Impressions
« on: October 12, 2007, 02:16:31 PM »
+Environments are OMG
+Atmosphere is cool
+Monster (id) designs are OMG
+Music is good
+Action is fast and fun
+Lots of monsters to collect

-Loading. Every fucking screen is loading. I thought Abrader's magical PS3 stopped this LOADING
-Main character models are awful, female lead walks around stoned with her mouth hanging open every scene.
-Dialogue is some of the worst ever. 'Why did my mom? Come to? This town?'. Wtf, how would anyone even say that.
-Story is boring.
-Action is fun WHEN IT HAPPENS

In short, its one of those games that will probably be remembered, but Kameo, the closest comparison, is a better game already. Plus, to quote demi, NO ACHIEVEMENTS!

Hmmm, are the loading times just frequent, or are they long, too?  Any hard numbers on how many monsters there are to collect?  I still need to give this a rogering.

i'd have to disagree with you there maf, kameo < folklore (and i was one of the few that liked kameo).  the variety of transformations in folklore eclipses kameo's.  and the boss battles are more fun.  i'd liken the boss battles of kameo to that of lost planet -- a pain the ASS.

Sounds like garbage.  I'll pass since I didn't even like the demo.  Did you try the R&C demo yet?  It looks quite good although you called it when you said that the gameplay will just be more of the same.

I almost threw my controller at the screen during the water boss fight.  Still, I found Kameo to be an enjoyable but short experience.  My biggest beef with the game is the controls which simply didn't feel intuitive for a platformer.  Rare should have went with just one button to change characters much like how weapons are swapped in R&C.  Technically, the game is pretty impressive even now.  It has much of the scale and activity that sfags like to claim that only the Cell and Blu-Ray are capable of.

yeah, kameo is a little technical wonder. the disrespect it and Viva Pinata get despite doing some pretty extraordinary things with the hardware is kinda sad. maybe if rare made a brown-colored shooter with a faked-up lighting model and dubious post-processing effects, and then talked a lot of smack about it on beyond3d they'd get some props!

I'd rather have frequent loads than long loads.

Sounds good enough to purchase... I might have to do that. And, I need to download that Ratchet Demo.

Oh its worth the purchase, id say its worth more like 40 dollars, but its a solid game, its just everything around it like story/dialogue/characters are kinda laughable at times.

Smooth: Ill grab the demo so I can see how pretty it is, but ill probably pass on it

viva pinata was ace.  it's the epitome of a sleeper hit.  but after a while it just wears on you...  i told myself i'd go back and play it some day, but that day has yet to come.
