Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo Out

As I mentioned last night in the Quake Wars thread, the UT3 Beta Demo is out today:

Not a huge download, but then again that's because they gimped the textures to reduce the file size. The final version will look a lot better, but the demo offers both SP and MP on three maps, and is well worth checking out.

Awesome, all the great demos seem to be coming out now.  I wish that they hadn't gimped the textures though.  The COD4 demo was twice the size but I bet most PC gamers still downloaded it.

Yeah it still looks good (and runs so great, I love UE3 on the PC), but the lack of really badass textures and clean AA (not in the demo either) are painful knowning what it should be looking like.

What's wrong with the textures? UE3's strong suit has to be textures and then shader-ing them to hell, so if the game has meh textures, where are they?

The super awesome hyper-combo-finish textures aren't in the beta demo to keep the download size small. They'll be in the full game!

Holy shit, I know my computer is getting on its years, but I couldn't really run this demo.  It ran fine at a low resolution and with as little detail possible, but looked AWFUL.  Yet when I turned up all the detail, it STILL looked horrible and just ran choppier.  I guess my graphics card and this game don't match; this has never happened before.

My rig ran it pretty well.  There was some choppiness right after install but it went away when I defragged last night.  woo.

I was messing with the settings for shits and giggles and i brought texture detail down to like 3 and holy shit the game is disgustingly bad.

it IS beta and isnt optimized, dont be surprised if a capable rig gags on it a bit.

I had texture detail on 4 and it still looked awful.     My card's old, so it's no surprise I guess, but this has never happened before...

Demo's performance was great on my PC but I was slightly overwhelmed by the graphics.  I ran it w/everything maxed out at 1920x1200 and it never once dipped below 60fps.  The demo doesn't even look as good as Gears of War, although Shangri-la shows off the huge potential that is being held back by the demo's gimped textures.

The lack of super high res textures and DX10 effects have made me sort of put off any judgement on the game's visuals until a real demo, with those things available, is available.

Its a pretty good looking game at this point even, if they keep it at this level and focus on gameplay this could be the best UT yet
