Jericho demo - anyone actually like it?
« on: October 12, 2007, 11:08:37 PM »
I just played this tonight and was presently suprised.

I like the blend of shooting and QTE events...That part where you slide down the tube with the fiend chasing you and then beat his head off in a QTE battle is wkyd.

I love the female characters katana.

I may buy this...I have only tried the PS3 demo so far- I need to try the X360 demo too.

The GFX looked good and the environmentals and ambience felt great to me. The combat is "ok" so far. The enemies just kind of charge you - and I dont get the thing with the special powers and the bees (felt like a bioshock rip)

who had the bee power?

one had telekinesis and moving their sniper shot.  another had a personal shield thing and sending out fire demons.  the other had flame shield and an attacking flame thingy.

the demo was pretty good though.

I am talking about the bees that fly in to eat the remains of your enemies.

I had a blast with it, and was surprised. It still remains a somewhat B-grade shooter, but it's fun nonetheless.

Normally I don't like seeing shooters with gimmicks, but Jericho actually has a nice amount of refreshing innovations.

Play it on Windows if you can, though, the game feels much weaker on consoles. The PS3 demo is particularly bad since in it the game isn't optimized yet and has a resolution that's closer to SDTV than HDTV, IIRC. It's full of jaggies and shit.

Contrastingly, Timeshit is everything that you could possibly hate about gimmick-based FPS'es. Urgh.

I played it through twice and thought it was pretty average. The graphics were pretty good, at least on the pc.   In terms of gameplay, there were some nice ideas but the execution didn't go so well.  For example, the magic spells take way too long to execute which make them useless if you want to avoid damage.  The QTEs were actually the shittiest part of the game.  They didn't bring anything new to QTE gameplay and the timing for input is poorly tuned.  QTEs can GTFO my FPS games.

The demo has a default brighter gamma setting on the PS3. Its too dark on the X360 by default.

It looks better on the X360 by a small margin - but still enough to make me get the X360 edition.

Basically when you have a few reflective objects lit up on the PS3 edition in an ontherwise dark area you see jaggies galore - since this will happen with faint beams of light are lighting up the wall texture bumpmapping, the walls will look like they are crawling from time to time from the jaggies on the PS3 edition....i literally thought all of the walls were wet and had water running down them when playing the PS3 demo - and it was just jaggies creating crawling walls - not running water.

oh yeah after watching the "about jericho" video i cant wait to buy this.

Is it just a scripted level to level adventure, or is it an adventure/rpg? The one guy being able to revive teammates over long distances made me think it had a larger scope then your average squad shooter.

QTEs can GTFO my FPS games.

I hear you  - but i like something changing up the pace - and it works for a horror game.
