I disagree. I think video games are a viable medium for excellent story-telling and unfortunately, only a handful of games have pushed that envelope due to the market. Most of those handful of games are from the jRPG genre though.

Oh, and because everyone brings it up, I do read books, I'm currently reading paradise lost by milton.

No games from the western market I've played had any characters show any real emotion (I haven't played Half-Life 2 but I'm tempted now), so while most jRPGs may "fail" at it at least they are trying.

he's sorta right in that, while most of the times japanese game storylines come off as incredibly cheesy and corny, western gaming storylines and characters are in most cases, extremely sterile and dull in comparison... must be a matter of cultural taste
