I already have that and I am not even sure if I am going to try to watch it.  The box was just so shiny and nice looking that I couldn't resist the price, even if the show got bad.

I watched up until Company Man, maybe an episode or so after it.  Even Christopher Eccleston couldn't save it.

For the record, Ruzbeh, I thought the show started out well enough (I found the pilot kind of boring, but it was clear it was setting things up, and for doing that it was acceptable), but it lost serious steam right when it should have starte really cookin'--when introductions were over.  After the first 4 to 6 episodes, it was just kind of meh for me. . .until mid-season, when it seemed like with full knowledge of the show being a hit, they turned shit up.  The mid-season was pretty great, and I figured that this was a case of deserved hype.  But the same thing happened again.  And yes, I did like Eccleston's character, but honestly, I won't watch something just because Doctor Who was doing a guest spot.

In short, I think the most problematic part of the show is that it's overburdened with bad characters.  I hated Hiro at first because he was clearly a bundle of idiosyncracies and Japanese stereotypes rolled up into a racist popcorn ball, complete with shit getting stuck in your teeth.  Puzzle me bewildered when a few episodes later, I find him to be one of the more interesting characters.  When a complete stereotype, bordering on racist, is your shows most interesting character, you've got problems.

Claire isn't really that bad, but I hate the tendency of TV shows not to characterize female characters well.  Claire's main character trait is that she dresses like a cheerleader and is hot. The Petrelli's, obstensibly sort of the main characters, are both boring, and the worse of the two seems to be bordering on Spider-Man levels of emo sometimes.  Niki and everything, everyone associated with her is embarassing.  When she, or one of her associates would appear onscreen towards the end of an episode, you could rest easy with the knowledge that turning off the show, smoking pure heroin, and coming up with your own ending would probably be less distinguished mentally-challenged.  And feature better acting.

And there's also the show's tendency to not show action onscreen, despite being a show about heroes.  I hear this gets more annoying just past where I quit, but it was still rather noticeable from where I was watching.

But I put 15+ episodes into the thing.  That's more of a fair shake, that's like 15 opportunities for it to get its act together and live up to the tantalizing promise that would frequently peer through the edges.

And HDTVs rock, Ruzbeh, and I got mine for a cool 500 beans.

Heroes meh. The one episode I watched was soo lackluster; it was the big "save the cheerleader" one everybody was talking about.

I'll start from the beginning on Joox; there's no way I'm buying it.

Oh, I'm sorry, I meant to mention that, but I got carried away.

I already bought that earlier this week.  I'll probably give it a watch this week.  I am going to try to make half hour shows TV I watch in bed while trying to get to sleep.

Good man, TVC. I have nothing else to recommend (that you don't probably already own), sorry. Although, you've only seen Season 1 of The Wire right? Buy the rest. It only gets better.

Yeah, I have season 2 of the Wire, too, and the first 3 seasons of Homicide.  Once I rap with the Shield I would like to get into that.

I have seen season 1 of The Wire, and the only reason I didn't rush out for 2 is that it's an exhausting show to watch.  I watched it at a time where I liked watching TV while fucking around on my computer, and that really didn't work out supercool with The Wire.  Lots of going back scenes and all that.  My habits have changed a bit and I'd do better now, but I kinda want to finish the Shield lest I become one of those OMG HOW CAN YOU WATCH THE SHIELD IT SUCKS WIRE WIRE WIRE assholes from GAF.

I can see that. The Shield is a much easier show to watch. In terms of pure entertainment value, I'd actually put it above The Wire. Although, I ripped through the first 3 seasons of The Wire pretty damn quick. I'm going to wait until the DVD set comes out to watch Season 4, since if I try to watch something on my laptop, a situation similar to the one you mention occurs. I have Season 6 of The Shield waiting on my external hard drive to watch it. But again, I kinda have the urge to watch it on my TV.

You know, people say a certain movie might have something for everyone, meaning that it's an approachable movie to just about all tastes.  Caligula, too, offers something for everyone. . .just in a less approachable way.

Make sure you get the 156ish minute cut.  You want it to be at least 156 minutes, or 156 on the dot.  There is a 150 minute cut that cuts out stuff like, I'm assuming, the "deep diving," so 156 is the important number.

I bought this almost exactly 1 year ago.  Same model and everything:

Except I paid over 300 bucks for it.  I swear it was 350-400.  Now, a year later, I am getting twice the space for the same price, a lil cheaper, maybe.  And that 500 gigger from last year is now 129!!!!!!

The MyBook line has worked out very nicely for me.

distanmantra, those places are  apin to get to via bus.  Except cap hill Sonic Boom.  Sunday is really not a great day to go into the city if you rely on bus. :(

Hey how's the transfer speed via USB? I'm thinking about getting a external HD for games/movies/music etc. but want to know what I should expect from just USB?

I keep all of my video content on the USB external drives.  I have no real problems using the on-the-fly transcoding to stream content from my main PC (which has the USB drives connected) to the 360.  The only problems I had was setting up the streaming transcoding, and that had to do with Media Center being fiddly.

There are some other issues that I think are more media center-related than anything.  Sometimes the streaming just doesn't work, and usually a PC reboot fixes that.  Again, more to do with media center not being perfect than anything.

Oh, the only times I've definitely had problems with that have involved the PC with the drives attached going to sleep.  That causes somewhat unpredictable behavior, but it's never a hassle to wake up a PC.

This is the 4th one in the MyBook line that I have purchased.  It's been around long enough that there are cheaper models (130 for 500 gigs is great).  They all have designs that emphasize ventilation, so they never get scary hot, either.

When I'm streaming HD video from my PC to my 360, the 360 is the one decoding it correct?  Why was my stream skipping?  I've got a Linksys WTG54 router and a land connection to the 360.  Too tired to fuck with it tonight though.

I am actually not sure.  Sorry dude :(

What I was referring to was decoding divx on my PC and having it stream to 360.  The divx decoding is DEFINITELY happening on the PC there.  No idea about the officially supported codecs, but I think a little birdy told me that is all PC side, too, although I have heard other things that imply the extenders do it.

In short, no fucking clue :(  Sorry

So you've had no problems with yours? I was gonna buy it a few months ago, but then I changed my mind after reading its customer reviews on sites like newegg. It seems that a good amount of people had it crap out on them in some form. Must be that green ring on the front...

I think what happens is the PC is transcoding as in changing the source vid from one format to the other. It changes it to a format that the 360 can handle (as in WMV). I believe, if theres any chugging it would have to be a PC issue since its appearently buffers the transcoded video and shoots it over to the 360. I believe the 360 decodes the stream itself but not too sure.

I would check the source file, or transcoding program. If your using a LAN connection, it should be able to do HD fine. I've heard that WiFi has issues with HD videos.

Crap.  I guess I'll have to update my PC too.  I thought the 360 did all the transcoding, not sure how I got that mixed up.  Wishful thinking I suppose?  What program would my PC be using to transcode the file?

Ahh NFL starting, might mess with this tonight.
