Nas destined to stir controversy with new album title..

NEW YORK — The n-word it is.

On Friday night at New York's Roseland Ballroom, Nas announced the title of his next album: He said it will be called nicca and released in December. A source close to the project confirmed the name on Saturday.

Nas has said he'd planned to use that title for his last LP before he changed it to Hip-Hop Is Dead
. If the December date holds firm, Nas will have a very busy winter. On November 6 he's releasing his Greatest Hits LP. A video for one of the two new songs on the project, "Surviving the Times," will be shot soon. Last week, super producer Jermaine Dupri — who has already completed tracks for Jay-Z's American Gangster — told MTV News he would love to be involved in Nas' upcoming new LP.

Nas headlined the last stop of the Sneaker Pimps Tour on Friday, where newcomers such as Mista Mal as well as legends EPMD and Slick Rick had sets. Even Jeru Da Damaja showed up and rocked the mic.

Nas kept fans antsy by not going on until well after 1 a.m., but they left visibly — and audibly — pleased.

He opened with "Hip-Hop Is Dead," then went into his catalog for records such as "One Love" and "Hate Me Now." God's Son ended with "Made You Look," during which he surprised the fans by jumping into the crowd. Once among the people, he began jumping up and down and inciting the people to jump with him. One of Nas' security guards dove into the audience after him, pulling him back to the stage, where he stood none the worse for wear.

"He touched my hand and gave me positive energy," one woman said as the house lights came on.

Besides phat rhymes, spectators saw some of the most exclusive kicks you can hope to get, as sneakers from all over the world were displayed. There was also a pit for professional skaters who sailed up and down ramps. Still, most of the skaters had to put their boards down when the acts came on, especially Nas

He planned on calling his last album nicca, but Def Jam balked for obvious reasons. It'll be interesting to see if they allow it this time; might as well considering all Def Jam does is stir controversy to garner record sales.

If you call your album "nicca" you better back it up. The same can be said of his last album title, and imo he didn't back it up there. I don't even listen to HHID anymore and grew tired of it quickly. Maybe he'll get better production this time.

You'd think Nas would be compelled to make better music in competition with Jay; all the stuff I've heard from American Gangster has been VERY lackluster. Oh well..

btw here's the new song from the greatest hits CD:

How would anyone "back up" an album titled...that? And how are whiteys supposed to ask for the album when they go to a record store?  Will black employees be offended when the whitey asks "Hey, could you point me to where Nas's nicca is?"

From what I understand it's going to be a concept album, a look at race from the perspective of a racist. I'd expect lots of social commentary, similar to his last album (Hip Hop is Dead). Interesting concept, but if the music isn't compelling it'll lose it's relevancy

For whatever reason, to back up a title like that, I am picturing Nas walking into some totally establishment, old fashioned ball complete with white debutantes, big puffy dresses, pearls jewels, tiaras, the whole deal, and just dropping his shorts and yelling "WHERE ALL DA WHITE WOMEN AT?"

It seems that Nas needs controversial album titles to sell.

The perspective of a racist? So he's going to pretend to be a white rapper who hates black people? Huh?  Or he's going to make a rap album pretending to be the stereotypical black man Bill O'Reilly probably imagines him to be, rapping about how he wants some "motherfucking iced tea"?

That's all I know about the album. I'd imagine it'll feature songs about stuff like interracial relationships, black entertainers getting in trouble, Jena 6, etc. It won't be "lol I hate black people". I expect something similar to Hip Hop is Dead in terms of concept.

Well said.

I did enjoy a few tracks off of HHID. "Not going back" "Blunt Ashes". Those two I still jam out and I can see myself enjoying them further down the road. But 2 songs out of an entire disc isn't really doing it.

Hopefully his next will be 10x's better.

This would be so much more shocking if, like, NWA didn't beat him to it... fifteen years ago.

Fuckin' Nas, made a career out of one amazing album and countless shitty ones. At least B.I.G. had the decency to get killed in his prime.
