I'm not sure.  I started watching with the FX debut and the people at my house download everything.

I just watched ep 1 of season 3 and it blew total nuts. Please tell me the whole season isn't like this. That was just stupid.

I can barely stand this show because they sound like they are yelling ALL the time.

... like South Park.

just watched episode 2, and it seems they turned the wacky to 11.  I. . .don't like this so much

I don't know how you can not like Season 3, for the most part (there are two duds).  Last week's episode ("Mac is a Serial Killer") was pretty great.

Episode 3 is great. It would probably be the best episode of this season, but the Dee and Frank parts drag on and throw off the pacing quite a bit. 1,2, and 5 are the only real duds so far.

Aside from this and the most recent episode, I didn't like the third season at all.  I liked the show when it was at least a little bit grounded in reality.  Now it's like a live action Family Guy or something.

I'd go with a live action South Park, actually. I've said that before.

I almost put that down, but I didn't, since season 3 has seemed to drop any concept of theme or commentary, and just gone with wacky shit after wacky shit.  Like, I thought the dumpster baby would be like a season 1 or 2 episode, and was going to attempt to be a skewering of, I dunno, the police handling of the situation or the fucked up distinguished mentally-challenged foster or adoption systems, but it was just "Hey we found a baby, here's some wacky shit that happened that is completely ridiulous."  And the rooting through the garbage subplot felt like a Kramer plot ripped from an especially shitty episode of Seinfeld. It's like the George's Girlfriend's Mom Thinks He is a Scumbag Because She Caught Him Rooting Through the Garbage subplot. . .except more EXXXTREME.  And Dee's distinguished mentally-challenged boyfriend subplot from later in the season?  I don't even have to hint at what that felt like a grab from.

Also, in seasons 1 and 2, the show didn't have many pop culture references, and now there are entire episodes dedicated to them.

Sorry for hatin, Corny, but I'm only doing it because the show drastically changed between seasons 2 and 3, and I really enjoyed the old show, not so much the new one.  I think that's understandable.

Jesus Christ, going through Season 1 for the first time in a while...it's even better than I remember. And they had Rick Astley before the Rickroll fad. Sunny > internet.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty great.  It's gone from AHEAD OF THE ZEITGEIST to MOVIE PARODIES ALL THE FUCKIN TIME.

I'm surprised at how long it took you to turn on the show. I honestly feel the show started taking the dive in Season 2. I'll see how I feel after going through the DVDs. I've said that I think I've just accepted the change more by now, which is why I'm enjoying Season 3 more than 2. I might just also enjoy the EXTREMENESS and outright ridiculousness of Season 3. I do like many of the late Seinfeld episodes.

But even you have to admit that Night Man is fucking hilarious, though.

I dunno, I thought 2 had more rough spots than 1, but if I had to name my favorites (as I have) they'd probably all be from 2.

2 notched up the wackiness--largely introduced it, actually--but it really didn't get that terrible until season 3.  There's not a whole lot worse than poorly done wacky, really, and season 3 is groaning in that regard.

the one with the distinguished mentally-challenged fellow boyfriend of dee and singing about nightman WAS funny.  I also like the one where the McDoyle's take them hostage (I even liked the die hard parody at the end).

I think this is the best show/movie that danny devito was ever in.  second place is Get Shorty.

I need to get through the first two seasons again so I can make a truly educated, unclouded judgement. As you said, Season 2 introduced the wackiness for the most part, and with the addition of Devito, I already began to dislike the direction the show was moving. Maybe watching Season 2 again will make me realize that a downturn has occurred in Season 3. Looking at the episode guide, I think I might have missed one or two of the episodes at the end of the season. I could've sworn I downloaded and watched any that I missed.

So I finally got around to finishing up Season 1 again, and Mac talks about breaking Tom Brady's arm in the beginning of one episode. God, I love this show.
