I like the spirit hunger-it holds back rest spamming and actually adds a sort of urgency to finding a cure. It does stop ticking down while in conversation, and if you're just messing with inventory you can just pause.
Anyway, if you want to play it right, it's pretty much supress near spirits to get craving down to a minimum-that will reduce the amount of spirit energy consumed per unit of time, and consume a spirit every other "day" or so to keep it up. Eventually you're going to get into a FUBAR zone every so often where you need to NOM NOM NOM on your XP, it's not so bad and fills you all the way up.
If you just don't want to have to deal with it, bring down the console using tilde and hit this in:
rs ka_se_points_set(100.0)
That should fill the meter up.
It is a contraversial thing to add to this kind of game, but I think it has the effect of both not making people rest after every fight (which is unecessary for a properly equipped high level party anyway) and adding to the overall effect of "if you don't find a way to get this thing excised, you're fucked".
