PG4 is stunning indeed.  The visual improvement over PGR3 really surprised me.  The image quality, environments, lighting, textures, etc are at least 25% better than PGR3's.  lol at the fools that thought the 360 was maxed out.

In terms of gameplay, PGR4 still offers the best balance between sim and arcade.  The difficulty levels do a really good job of making the challenge just right for players of all skill levels.  My only complaint is that I wish I could have more selection of the races that I want to do, like in PGR3.  It's kinda sad that PGR4 has been pigeon holed by some as just another PGR even though it has so many significant improvements.  It's nice to know that there're others are EB that appreciate it though.  I didn't talk much about this game since not many seemed to have been interested in it.

Arcade mode is great fun, but Career mode frustrates the hell out of me. Are you supposed to be shit at the start? Is it like collecting exp in an RPG or something?

What difficulty are you playing on?  Try Easy if you have a hard time winning on Normal.  I find Easy to still be fairly challenging to newbs.  You don't gain XP but you collect Kudos to buy more powerful cars.  Getting a more powerful car won't necessarily help you win more races since the CPU opponents have cars that are in the same class as you.    Since the races get more difficult technically as you progress, you just have to work on improving your skills.  There is no XP system to help your abilities improve.

the macau track in the demo is gorgeous -- love the color usage. not a fan of pgr's 'kudos' and novelty events, tho. i just wanna race

I've never been a fan of PGR's bullshit "kudos" system either but they've refined it enough in PGR4 where it actually seems fun somehow.  There's also a much larger emphasis on actual racing in the game instead of lame cone challenges like in previous PGRs.

I usually not a fan of these types of games (or the PGR series for that matter) but there's something about PGR4 that just clicks with me.

if you want to get first in every event, don't finish the race.  just hit start and RESTART RACE.  i'm a first place whore, so even if i do win an event, i like to know that i got first place in every single race of the series.

I like to pretend everyone who doesnt get 1st place is lined up before a ditch and shot, so I always restart too.

it's growing on me... but i can't play it more than a few hours at a time because of my road rage.  :maf  i have to agree with Groo, even the Normal difficulty is a damn joke, way hard even for an experienced player.  i beat PGR 1 and 2 with all platinums then 3 came out, and if you didn't run a perfect line and had some insane braking and drifting skills, there was absolutely no way to get plat.  same thing with PGR4, the difficulty is so damn high in the platinum races that it's pretty much impossible unless you have some extreme driving precision.

i'm not too fond of the career mode because of its calendar system.  you really don't have much control over the events that are available at any given time.  and even the majors are ridiculously fucking hard.  but i'm digging the improvements such as decreased load times, better controller sensitivity, visuals are ace, and even the UI has a very appealing look to it.  i think bikes are distinguished mentally-challenged, but i hear enthusiasts really enjoy that aspect.

PGR4 is definitely harder than PGR3.  Even on Easy, I had to work a bit to get 1st place.  I thought that my skills had deteriorated but when I played PGR3 again, I had no problems doing as well as I did before.  The biggest difference in difficulty seems to be the AI.  You can no longer make a bunch of mistakes and still end up winning the race because the opponents are too fast.

I feel the same way about the career mode as you do.  I appreciate how they try to make you feel more like a pro but I wish that they had just made the new career mode an extra mode, instead of replacing the old career mode completely.  The good thing about the previous career mode is that I could skip over races that I didn't feel like doing.

i like the bikes :'(

Remember Moto Racer for the PC?  It was one of the first PC racers with 3d graphics.  Great game.
