Goes without saying really. Both were great performances, but Jackman was able to show more range. Especially after seeing the "disappearing man" trick for the first time. I love that scene ("it was the greatest magic trick I've ever seen")

Jackman was the best part of the movie. Ignore Bale/Nolan mastubators at gaf. And I say this as someone who includes Nolan's Memento as probably one of my favorite films of all time.

I love Christian Bale, but I must admit, Jackman kicked his ass in this film.

Just watch.  Within a year, everyone will come around to my "Christian Bale is the new Keanu Reeves" position.

I like Bale, but he doesn't seem to be a great or versatile actor (caveat: haven't seen American Psycho).  He's very good at projecting intensity, discipline and obsession.  It works well for most of his roles, but he'd be just as lost taking on a Hugh Grant role as Hugh Grant would be playing Batman or Bale's character in Equilibrium.

Bale does a purty good job with American Psycho, even if I don't think the Bateman of the book and of the movie are quite the same character.  I think that has as much to do with the significant changes between the two.

I dont agree at all. And Im no Batman/Bale bootlicker. I feel that his performance was the better one, showing a bit more subtlety/nuance. Both were great performances though, and anchored what otherwise would have been a very average movie.

Watch American Psycho. Your mind will change.

Jackman in The Fountain > Bale or Jackman in The Prestige.

I still have yet to see the Fountain.  Maybe tonight, but it depends if I want something kinetic.  I'm not entirely convinced 100% that I will like it.

Bale actually did an excellent job.  The second viewing of the Prestige was so much more intense than the first one.  More poignant!  I thought both of them were fantastic, along with Michael Caine.  A top notch film, really, if you can ignore Johansen's "british accent".

Really?  I think post of Aronofsky's previous movies are some of the best in the past 20 years, and the wankery seems to be the sort to be expected when you are working in the I Am A Hoity Toity Comic Book genre (which I am also a fan of).  I just haven't done the time because I am a little older, and I know better than to potential spoil my good mood by watching another downer of an Aronofsky movie.

The only reason I'm not 100% convinced is because this wasn't as much a hit with the critics as his previous 2 movies.  I know that's kind of a dumb reason, but his previous movies got cream dream reviews, and in this one he seems to have lost a lot of the critics, some of them writing pretty convincing bits on why they did not love this movie.

Jackman is a first class actor.  the guy can do anything.

bale is just badass

if you're comparing the two in acting SKILL, jackman will almost always win, but bale is still awesome.

90% of Christian Bale is the sneer.  I agree with Mandark's position, in a few years no one will care about Bale.

even if no one will care about bale in a few years, which i doubt >:(, that still doesn't change the fact that he was awesome in one of the greatest movies of all-time: empire of the sun*

Eh, yeah I guess I can agree with that.  Their both awesome in it, and even though Bale's character was mroe interesting, Jackman was the guy that viewers say the most and related to the most.

I love Bale though, he's great in nearly everything I've seen him in.  Newsies <3

pretty much.

I see Bale pretty much playing the same moody character in every movie.  He still rocks though.

Mandark: He won't be the next Keanu Reeves, but I think he'll be the next typecast a la Pacino, De Niro, etc.

About 50% of my Reeves/Bale comparison comes from the low voice/high cheekbone combo.
