but isn't the 360 dominating the PS3 right now?  I'm not just talking about sales either.

Probably that GAF and stupid/serious system wars should stay at well, GAF

but drama brings in more traffic!

I like reading posts like

"If your taste is for actual games, go PC. If you like...um..."potential" or whatever other marketing speak Sony is going on about this month go with ps3."

Seriously, I don't think this place will ever be like GAF.  I've faith in the people running this place.   But I don't mind having tiffs like the DC vs Y2KEV just had, every now and then.  Internez drama is entertaining.

Real talk

The GT5 demo was kinda disappointing but its flaws have also been exagerrated.  The presentation is more stunning than any other racing game out there.  Like I said before, the car and garage in the selection menu almost look real.  However, once you start playing the game, there's a severe drop in visual fidelity.  The cars don't look even come close to looking like the one in the selection menu.  Aliasing is much more apparent and there're worse tearing/slowdown than the PS2 games.  Polyphony is also over-relying on making everything dark in order to achieve a realistic look.  Forza 2 looks like crap at first sight but at least cars aren't covered by shadows in broad daylight.  In terms of gameplay, GT5 is the best GT game yet because of the larger amount of opponents and more natural AI.   However, there are still many old flaws present such as the bumper car physics, lack of penalties, etc. which are unacceptable for a game that is touted as being the best simulation ever.  Also, GT lacks many of the features that've made Forza accessible to sim newbs.  If I had to pick between GT and Forza, I'll go with GT because I'm a graphics whore.  Even with the fake shading, GT is still easily the better looking game.   But at the end, racers that try to be realistic suck as games.  So go out and buy Dirt, PGR, or even NFS and Motorstorm.

DC, I don't know why you have to be so...uh, crazy sometimes. You become the shitbirds that you hate about GAF.

I like DC too, but I have no idea where that came from. I try not to carry any flag too highly, and I certainly haven't been hoisting Sony's flag any time soon. I expect a little more calculation here, it prevents the type of WeekendGAF threads nobody likes.

Real Talk

GT5 PROLOGUE is a car porn with some serious flaws. It looks fabulous to me and feels great. The bumping physics need major fixing.

I don't care about driver AI so much because I play online. And this will have 16 player online. Which is a big deal. Because I play online. And-- here's a more concrete comparison-- Forza 2 has 8 player online.

So we'll see.

I don't care about "damage modeling"-- it's nice, but ultimately superfluous. What needs to happen is realistic crash physics and real penalties for bumper driving.

dcharlie's trolling is unique in that he effectively trolls sony fans, but also somehow manages to troll himself in the process. 'meltdown' is one of the dumbest gaf buzzwords, but it seems to apply

in any case the b3d folks say gt5 runs 4xAA at 720p. wowow. that's twice as much AA as forza 2. the '1080p' mode is 1280x1080/2xAA -- which probably works better than the gthd demo's 1440x1080/no AA. i could tell you if i had a 1080p set :'(

i'm so tempted to pick up that 42" 1080p panny plasma -- it's like $1400 now

you need a special setting to address the image quality of a game that's clearly got some AA...which puts it ahead of dozens of games you had no problem with...i see...

maybe you're going about this wrong -- maybe you should just pretend it's a 360 game. you could leave a vacuum cleaner running to help sell the illusion

Dcharlie seems pretty sane to me compared to the crazies that think Halo's graphical issues make the game unplayable, while singing the praises of Heavenly Sword's visuals and shooting down anyone that notices slowdown/aliasing in GT5.

Does anyone actually say Halo 3 is unplayable?

I mean, it's jaggy, for sure. It has like no AA and it's being upscaled from a non HD resolution. But unplayable?

drohne, i wouldn't trust b3d over everything they say.

they said ratchet and clank is 704p and posted three pictures showing black bars on top/bottom, then all of a sudden, pictures were deleted! discussion no longer to be found! (same halo 640p guy i think).

lol wtf hax.

anyway, GT5P isn't problem free, but maybe they will fix everything in the end with GT5.

J-rzez always whines about how Halo 3 is barely playable the framerate and jaggies.  Yet he thinks that Heavenly Sword is the most amazing next-gen game ever.   Go figure.  That's what I hate most about Sfags.  They buy other consoles to show how unbiased they are yet they can't seem to enjoy anything that's not Sony.  At least Xbots and Ninthings aren't dumb enough to spend money on games/systems from a company that they hate.

Unfortunately, there was this one guy at gaf, he bitched about the framerate drops to no end (to him, framedrops were almost SOTC level).

after a few days, he sold it via ebay.

true story.

Halo 3's image quality is pretty terrible at times but at least I'm not trying to chain a combo or counter something while the game is stuttering along at 10-15 fps.

What pisses me the most about Halo 3, is that it's from Bungie, a 1st party developer, and the graphics ain't as good as Lost Planet! a third party game from a Japanese developer (Capcom)

i appreciate the gameplay is ace and everything, but i don't appreciate this level of graphics, heck if they can't make it better, then at least make it clean.

nope, it's a fucking mess, and on top of that, the cutscenes and human models/animation are one of the worst shit i ever seen on the 360 yet.

as for framerate drops, i never encountered any, or maybe i don't mind it in a fps game.

i don't know how the b3d guy came up with 4xAA or whether he's right, but you can look at the power lines and see that they're being smoothed -- whether it's 2xAA or 4xAA, it's clearly there. dcharlie's take on gt5's iq runs counter to the facts...which isn't even good trolling, really. spin, slant, whatever -- but maintain a correspondence with reality

Well, if he is right about the 4xAA at 720p then Turn 10 should be ashamed.

i remember them promising 4xAA but they only delivered 2xAA.

I guess I"ll stick with 720P then if that's true.  1280x1080 sounds worse than the 620p Bungie came up with.  I'll rather have proper scaling than a few extra pixels.

Being grounded in reality is not really conducive to trolling.  The whole point of trolling is to piss off your intended targets, regardless of what you yourself really see or believe.

Capcom almost always makes nice looking games though.  The same can't really be said of Bungie.  Graphical glitches have been as prevalent in the Halo series as good artistic direction and animation.   Halo 1 wasn't even that impressive technically yet it suffered from nasty slowdown.  Halo 2 looked pretty good at first glance but Bungie allowed for a lot of graphical glitches in order to create those high level visuals.  I'm really not sure why people were disappointed that Bungie didn't create the best looking 360 game ever.  Even on the Xbox 1, there were developers that managed to achieve better graphics while avoiding most of Bungie's problems.

I don't know why we're going on about this still, but I at least expected (and was promised by ghaleon lol) that Halo 3 would look like the announcement trailer. While the neato lighting was pretty impressive, the model obviously wasn't there and the IQ was not even close.

Smooth, it's because in this gen, when you look at 1st or 2nd party titles for the 360/PS3, they usually deliver in the graphics department (see Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted), so when you see Bungie and MS huge budget behind them, you will at least expect something as good looking as these titles, but instead, we got worse.

that and with them releasing that bullshot CG trailer.

whatever though, game is out, gameplay rocks and it sold over 3 millions, so who cares lol.

still dcharlie, you should post more around here, i love your gaming impressions.  :bow

also, Forza 2 may only have 2xAA but the framerate is 60 fps constant, not even a single drop in framerate through the whole game.

I could pretend it`s an X360 game but i`d just switch it off and play a better game like Forza...

uh, so pretend forza's a ps3 game, and you'll suddenly realize it's a tacky knockoff with various imaginary graphical problems?
