Well, my 360 has been freezing up with regularity the past couple of weeks, and I knew it was on its last legs, so I decided to go ahead and cash in my Best Buy warranty. They were out of the Pro systems or whatever the fuck they're called, so I took the voucher/store credit card for the original purchase amount and applied it to an Elite, paying the $50 difference.
Then I went a little nuts and bought the HD-DVD attachment, because of the five free movies deal.
I don't know if they're in your area, but there's a store called MovieStop here in town. They're owned by Gamestop. They're running a deal where you can trade in four old DVDs (have to be studio feature films) and get a new release free. Well, this applies towards HD releases, too, up to $20. So I traded in four crappy old DVDs for Transformers, and paid the $10 difference.
Then I bought T3 and The Searchers with actual cash. Then I traded in four more DVDs towards A Clockwork Orange for next week.
I'm going to sign back up to Netflix tomorrow, since they rent HD-DVDs. I may trade in some more DVDs towards The Shining for next week.
I've only watched 5 minutes of Transformers - I never watched the cartoon, so I don't give fuck what kind of nerd embolisms the "continuity changes" caused, and 5 minutes isn't enough to determine whether or not the movie is a complete piece of shit, but giant robots beating the goddamned hell out of each other in HD sounded okay to me for a first movie purchase. And holy fuck the picture quality. Holy fuck. I had to stop it and post this because it made my dick hard, it's so clear and crisp. Completely blows away OTA HD programming.
I have the feeling I'm going to be trading in a lot of DVDs towards new HD releases.
Detailed impressions of the Elite 360, T3, and The Searchers coming later. Fuck that narcolepsy-inducing King Kong pack-in. I may pop it in to check the PQ, but I'll be goddamned if I'm sitting through that whole movie again.
To sum up for the illiterate and Synbios:
