Most expensive meal
« on: October 23, 2007, 09:52:57 AM »
I thought this might be a fun thread.

What has been your most expensive meal and at what restaurant?

My most expensive meal cost me $280.  We had a party of four and the bill for the entire table was $1200. It was a six course meal with wine tasting at Blue Hill restaurant, a three star joint in Westchester, New York.  It was worth every penny.

I dropped $50 at Waterzooi, a pretty nice Belgian bistro in Garden City, a few weeks ago... but then again I don't believe in spending a lot on food (usually just go to hole-in-the-wall ethnic chains to eat), I don't drink with meals (just get water), and only order a main course and (maybe) an appetizer, no dessert.

I spent around $120 at a place here called Roy's Riverboat Landing  (balconies overlooking the riverfront, very pretty) a couple of years ago, and around that much taking the check at a Thai place called Indochine (they have a watergarden in back, with gazebos that have handcrafted metal roofs, also very pretty) a year or so ago, but I generally don't ever spend that much $ on restaurant meals.

He paid 70 dollars for steak or did he eat 70 steaks?
(I know that's probably not true, eating 70 steaks that is)

$1,200 for six people (me, my wife, my parents, and my wife's parents) at the Waterfront in Seattle last November. My dad and my father-in-law split the bill, but I still couldn't believe how expensive it was.

Also, there was a tip included in the bill, but they still left an extra $175 tip... whoops.

I don't think I've ever spent more than 80 dollars for my own meal.  the most expensive meal I've ever paid for for a 150 dollar meal.  It was good, but it felt like such a waste.  so fuck that shit.

then again, I wasn't of drinking age then.  I bet I could spend quite a bit of money now at one of those restaurants with wine or something.

I've had $80+ bar tabs where I've ordered the cheapest hamburger on the menu.  I don't think I've ever spent more than $50 on food alone, but it isn't something I keep track of.

I've had a piece of steak at Mortons, I think it was around $50.  We had lobster cocktail appetizers though, and a couple of $300 bottles of wine.  I think between 5 people the tab including tip was close to $1000.  It was a very nice meal but I'd never buy something like that for myself.

I ate at The Palm for my birthday last year, courtesy of my folks.  I think for four people, the bill came out to like $270.  Luckily, we had two $100 gift cards!

The most expensive meal I had was a $300/person meal at some fancy dinner cooked by a bunch of award winning chefs.  A business friend of my dad paid for it though.  The most I spent was about $150 at a French restaurant in Vegas, which is probably not that much for French.

Remember that thread where FoC bragged about his 70+ steak dinner or some crap. Oh the lolz rolled in that night.

I get $70 steaks several times a year.  I have to say that most of the time it's not worth it.  You can get 80-90% of the quality at 1/2 the price elsewhere.  The extra cost just seems to be for the fancy setting and more elegant service.

J Alexander's steaks are top notch and only cost 30 dollars for a 16 oz.
