Giuliani backs Red Socks in World Series, credits 911 for ending rivalry

(CNN) — It may be politically popular in the heart of Red Sox Nation, but that probably didn’t make the admission any easier for Yankee fan Rudy Giuliani.

The former New York City mayor acknowledged at a Boston news conference Tuesday he is rooting for the rival Red Sox to win the World Series.

“I’m not saying that just because I’m here in Massachusetts,” the Republican presidential candidate said to applause and laughs. “If I’m in Colorado in the next week or two, you will see I will have the courage to tell the people of Colorado the same thing.”

He said that, as an American League fan, he always backs the team from the Yankees’ league.

Giuliani was in Boston to pick up the endorsement of former state treasurer Joe Malone, in the backyard of challenger Mitt Romney — the former governor of Massachusetts.

On Wednesday morning, the New York media took Giuliani to task for his team turnabout. In front page placements, the New York Post called the former mayor a "Red Coat," and the New York Daily News proclaimed him a "traitor."

I hate bandwagon Red Sox fans - like Giuliani here. They're just one of those teams that people seem to love supporting; they come out of the woodwork when they smell victory, only to bail out once the team preforms another world-class fuck up.

Like USC fans. Blumax excluded of course

They grew up hearing their parents whine so much about never winning anything that they revel in it - even AFTER winning a championship in 2004 (was that the year? I forgot).

If I had to make a list of my least favorite fans:

-Bostons bandwagon fans (that includes these new Celtics fans)
-USC bandwagon fans
-OSU fans
-fuckin Detroit Pistons fans (oh god, why do I live in Michigan)
-Chicago anything "fans"

I'm a Yankee fan myself.  And I've actually heard this line of reasoning with old-school baseball fans.  Before the playoff system only the team with best record in each league went to the WS.  If your team did not make it you would root for your league, either American or National.

BUT...No real Yankee fan would root for the Red Sox.  Just as no real BoSox fan would root for the Yankees.

BTW, why does Giuliani always bring up 9/11?  We should just call him Rudy "9/11" Giuliani.  Honestly, I deeply saddened by that tradegy, but isn't time to move on.

Mupepe is like the reverse of me.  I'm a Californian that hates the 49ers.  I used to get into fights with my cousins because I'll be cheering for the Cowboys during the 90s' heated rivalry between the two teams.

I love the 49ers. I know they suck and that's okay. I'm not about to jump on some other team's bandwagon--I have loyalty!
