Once the 60 gigs are gone, that's it for good BC.  Best Buy has that deal where you get HS or Lair or an extra controller with it, and I could sell the game on ebay to recoup a little of the cost.  I really just want the Blu-Ray, but BC and whatever PS3 titles that will be worth a damn in the future are a nice perk.

Few questions:

1.  Can you use the controller as a Blu Ray Remote?

2.  Regular HDMI cable, or do I have to buy some proprietary Sony bullshit?

3. How much could I possibly get for a PS2 slim, three controllers (no 1st party, that one I broke), component cables, Memory card, and about a dozen games?

1.  Yes

2.  Any HDMI cable

3.  2 years ago, I got 40 bucks for my PS2.

BTW, you can get the 80 gig and get good BC (i think)

Eel, how big is the TV you are playing on?

If you have a big TV, PS2 games have a good chance of looking crappy when upscaled, so you might want to hang onto the slim and keep it set up on a smaller TV.

I have a 37" that I sit about 9-10 feet away from.  It already looks crappy, but I can live with it.  I don't have that many PS2 games, but having the BC would be nice if I want to use it in the future.

I figure I can get about $175 out of the PS2 slim, three controllers, component cables, memory card, and a dozen games.

I'm also selling my PSP (it occurred to me today that I haven't touched it in about 2 months), a dozen games, a 1 gig Memory stick, and a bunch of accessories, and I can probably get the same amount or a little better for that.

So we're looking at an outlay of actual cash somewhere between 100-150, depending on what I can get for the PSP and stuff.  That's not bad for a Blu Ray player, which is the main reason I want a PS3.  The rest of it is just perks, but perks are nice.

I gotta say that the big TV has fully made me a total HD whore when it comes to movies.  Within a month of getting the TV, even with a BD player, I went out and got an HD-DVD player.  I think I have said this before here, and I know it makes me sound superficial, but HD does make EVERYTHING better.  Even Bram Stoker's Dracula!

Yet it can't make Transformers better...

No shit.  I'm addicted.  I can't even watch regular TV anymore, it looks so fuzzy.

I already own 13 HD-DVDs, and I have only had the HD-DVD player since last Friday.

I want those Die Hard movies in HD.  They only come in Blu Ray.  Therefore, I need Blu Ray.

If I get the PS3, then I am covered in case one format goes completely belly-up.

The BC on the 60 GB models means I still have a PS2.

I think I'm gonna do it.

Funny, but PS3 games are the last thing in the list of reasons I want a PS3.

Well, it has to be something with a focus on visuals for it to be improved.  Transformers looked like shit in theatres, so it's only natural that it will also look like shit in HD.

Plus, I can sell Heavenly Sword and cut the price even further.  I'm gonna go do it, right now.  TVC, we can jerk each other off over all formats of Hi-Def movies now.

the PS3 will be a really great investment for you, you can expect 10 years of solid use from that workhorse of a console, there will be no hardware issues whatsoever

What's a reference quality Blu Ray title I can get for my first movie purchase, TVC?

People seem to say Casino Royale is one of the best.  I haven't seen it on BD because I am not a giant fan of the movie.  Once was enough for me.

Kingdom of Heaven DC is really, really nice, transfer and all.

Hellboy was a very nice transfer.  The movie didn't have the biggest budget, so the HD makes some of the CG look too clean and CG-y though.  I dig that movie a lot, though, which is why it was one of my first.

Apocalypto was very nice on BD.  Not sure if you like that movie.  I think it's pretty enjoyable, but some people have a thing with Mel Gibson movies.

Everyone cites Planet Earth as being super great in HD, but I already have it on DVD and I don't want to do a 99 dollar double dip.

I'd have to be at home to offer other suggestions.

Twilight Zone, which I'm sure a lot of effort was not put into as far as remastering goes, looked very nice for a circa 1980 movie.  I mean, it still has that 1980 film look to it, there's no getting rid of that.  That's on my mind because I just watched it.  I think it would be good to pick up a slightly older movie so you can see how older movies make the leap.  I bet those Kubrick ones are nice.

I think I'm gonna get Casino Royale, Apocalypto, or Meet The Robinsons.

I'm off - impressions later!

I got Meet The Robinsons.  It was a new release, and at Moviestop if you trade in 4 DVDs you get new releases free (up to $20).  I paid $5.33 for after the trade.  I'll get Apocalypto later.

Meet the Robinsons is nice in HD.  Apocalypto (partly because of transfer and partly because of scenery) is INCREDIBLE looking

Yes, I agree with the Casino Royale choice. Easily the best looking Blu-Ray in my collection.

It's good for showing off your new TV/PS3 and it's also good for putting people to sleep.  win/win.
