I was playing Gradius V the other day and decided definitively that it is the best game on the ps2.

Actually, I used to play Ikaruga on Gamecube with the control stick...was that bad?

Gradius V is amazing, Im sure I can think of a PS2 game I like better, though. DMC3 and God Hand are superior IMO, although they are different types of games. Apples and Oranges!

I think MGS3S deserves a mention. I loved MGS3, but MGS3S is a fucking amazing rerelease.

i'm not sure it's my absolute favorite ps2 game, but it's awesome enough that i'll provisionally say it is. i played it a lot this summer. its style is pretty unique -- just the sheer amount of onscreen non-bullet chaos -- can't think of anything to compare it to

Well, to tell you the truth I prefer ESPGaluda. Gradius V is fantastic but it tends to run on for a bit long (and I hate the damn level with all that green poison gas), making it less on the "pick up and play" side of things than I like for a shooter. My favorite PS2 games are DQ8 and Rez.

I don't have much trouble at all with level 5 until you come face to face with the boss... then the whole of level 6 is such a pain in the ass, ending with an ass-raping boss gauntlet. Halfway through level 7 it seems the difficulty completely drops and the rest of the game is a cakewalk.

gradius V is fucking awesome, period!

I played that an ikaruga for a while and decided ikaruga was definitely more fun because of its unique challenge, but shorter. Gradius 5 is easier and longer. plus i like the "end boss is easiest boss" weird thing they always do in the gradius games.
