Nintendo owes me a set of component cables
« on: October 27, 2007, 01:37:50 AM »
And no, I don't mean they owe me a refund for selling me a set for their piece of junk system that doesn't even do HD.

While setting up my Wii's cable's the other night, I had to remove my 360 cables in order to keep things neat.  Now, my 360 cables no longer work.  I either tugged on them too hard (year's of jerking off with too hard of a grip has left me with semi-distinguished mentally-challenged fellow strength) or being in proximity to Ninteno brand shit made them shit out on me.

Fuck Nintendo.

But....but graphics don't matter, gameplay does!

Zack and Wiki and Ratchet and Clank prove this wrong.  Zack and Wiki is a fun, inventive, and new game featuring all new gameplay but terrible visuals (all Wii's fault, Capcom did their job fine).  However, I find all my time going to Ratchet and Clank, a mediocre (well, mediocre for me since I have played all of these R&C games) game with eye jizzing graphics.  So, Wii supporters are all wrong, as usual.  Great graphics do make up for shaky gameplay, and good gameplay does not make up for abysmal visuals.

Of course games like LOLair show no amount of good graphics can make up for shitty gameplay. I really hate how Nintendo thinks that just because devs won't focus on good visuals means they'll focus on making good gameplay, which is simply not true most of the time. Look at the NES, they had archaic 8 bit graphics put the amount of shit that went to it was almost atari 2600 level bad.

Hey TVC are you really looking forward to SMG? I'm on the fence, it looks decent, but I keep wishing it was more like SM64, the videos seem as if they could make someone dizzy. Hiroshi Yamauchi is just a crazy old Japanese nut, and Shigeru Miyamoto is no goddamn genius fuck him in the butt!

Maybe it looks like a 360 game in the postage stamp-sized screenshots they release.  Let's see what it looks like on a non-ghetto TV.

HD elitism?  Have you seen a Wii game on a big screen?

Want a close approximation of what it is similar to?  Emulate a PS1 game on an LCD fixed-pixel display.  It will share all the terrible aspects.  It will be blurry, it will be especially jaggy, and it will have lots of shimmering.

I like HD, but it's not elitism to say that Wii games look terrible on modern displays.  It's a fact that any non-koolaided gamer will cop to.

i didn't particularly enjoy playing my ps2 on my hdtv, which is why i keep an sdtv handy! wii image quality is barely an increase over that of the ps2, thanks to the cheap output filter, so wii display on a hd screen is YIKES

Why should I have to play a modern game system on an old television?  I'll probably end up doing that in the end, but I really do want to see how awful Mario looks on the TV.

Nintendo made a game system for 2006+, and it doesn't meet the minimum requirements.  Why not just play the PSX on an old 13 inch black and white TV!  That would make many of its visual shortcomings go away, too.

the wii isn't a modern game system, period. waggle aside -- which is $6 of radio shack parts -- it is 2001-era technology on a 2005 die. fab size aside, its internals were designed to compete with the ps2 on an sdtv, not the ps3/360, and you wonder why i mock it!

I remember playing Onimusha 4 (PS2) on my HDTV with component, it was blurry as hell, really bad, but i lived with it and beat the game in the end anyway.

what's funny is that i wanted to see how good Onimusha 2 looks on this HDTV, and to my surprise, it looked so much better than 4.

Oni2 = pre-rendered, Oni4 = real time.

is this the reason?

and sorry for going kinda off topic.

Really, I can not explain it.  I had a good time playing Zack and Wiki, but I can't think of any other reason I haven't gone back to it.  Visual feedback is an important part of gaming, always has been.  Maybe the most important thing.  Nintendo was off base thinking people "wanted" new control mechanisms.  We just want to see new things.  Control hasn't been lacking.

I don't feel like going back to Zack and Wiki because I was swindled into thinking itwas a Monkey Island-esque game, but I got EXIT instead

I just finished the Forest Temple in Zelda, and waggle is very not welcome here. Why does the Twilight World look like Okami, wolf and all? It even has the distinguished mentally-challenged "closed-in-defeat-all-enemies" thing as well. I fucking hated Okami.

exactly, it's actually pretty lolworthy but I'm stuck at the part where
spoiler (click to show/hide)
you're in the volcano and there's a bunch of spider mechs and there seems to be a bridge that goes across to a door further into the facility and there's a bunch of VS' (including a spider one in tank form) and I am being owned.

so I just want to play something online.  I have like 14 friends online right now but I'd prefer being in a party, maybe co-op!?

Sadly, there is no co-op in LP.

and remember, you don't need to beat everyone, running away is the best course of action in LP especially on hard or extreme.

Got to agree with you completely.  I could keep playing R&C for hours even though nothing about the gameplay is particularly interesting.  I just can't tear myself away from the pretty visuals. The lack of excitement is partly due to the ridiculously low difficulty.  Synbios can probably beat it with 1 foot on the controller.

What kind of tv do you have TVC?

Wii looks really good on my plasma, however, that term is relative.  Despite not being bothered by any shimmering, I still have rarely touched my wii since I got my 360.  The difference is striking in sharpness and detail, obviously, but the main thing is that it does make my wii image look soft.  Although the plasma enhanced my wii graphics, it didn't impress at all once I got some real HD gaming.
