AWESOME BOX DAY!!
« on: October 27, 2007, 08:47:19 PM »
Today, the BOX OF AWESOMENESS from Ichirou showed up. I was shocked at how fast it shipped out!

So fucking awesome! My wife is really excited about the grapefruit Hi-Chews and those little tsubu tsubu chew things. The Kit Kats rock!

The Dragonar figure is the greatest thing ever. I am so touched that you found it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I got the final component of your box today, but I got to the post office too late. They were already closed. It will go out Monday morning! I hope you like it!!

Yay, I'm glad you liked it. :D

The hardest thing to find was the Transformers game, for some reason.  And while I was looking for it I saw the G-Saviour game so I picked it up but I dunno if it's any good. :lol

I've heard the G-Saviour game is horrible, much like the film. But, I have a thing for terrible animu-based games, so I'm sure I'll love it.

I thumbed through Wild Fire... wow.

Wild Fire will change your life.  G-Saviour was only 315 yen so if you don't like it, it's not a huge loss.  It was just hard to find a PS2 Gundam game that you didn't own and that wasn't too overpriced. :lol

I hope you like strat./adventure games.  The ST games are amazing. :bow

I've always wanted to play Sakura Taisen games, I'm stoked!

As I was opening the box and taking photos, some friends stopped by to see our new house. I was trying so hard not to geek out while I was showing them around.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
Tucker Max.

Just wait to see a couple things I sent Ichi.

That is, if he decides to show them off.  :lol

I bought the Tucker Max book at the New Jersey airport so I had something to read on the flight to Japan.  It was funny (though the stories got a bit repetitive, seeing as they all involved debauchery and drunkenness), but I was kind of embarassed to have it so I was glad to have the chance to get rid of it, lol

I also thought of sending you The Time Traveler's Wife, but I didn't want to send too many gag gifts.

Dude, and those are only the varieties on sale right now...there are so many seasonal kinds - there's also pumpkin, white chocolate & maple syrup, wine, grape, cherry blossom, yubari melon, etc.  Literally dozens upon dozens of varieties released every year, for limited times.

The fuck? I need to experience these different flavors. This is what happens when I only buy candy from gas stations, I need to find a candy store.

ST1-3 DC are great, but the PS2 versions have the new ARMS battle system, plus STV Ep. 0 is stupid fun.

I'm going back home this X-Mas, so you can just send me a MO in December and I can cash it then.

Which ones did you give him? I see V there, plus some other SW shit. Is that a ps2 version that has all of the pre-ps2 SW games all in one disc or something because that'd rock.

Do the ps2 versions get a graphic face lift? I'm fine with the graphics on the dc version since they're all saturn ports (bar ST3 which was made for the DC) but I'm curious.

This wasn't Secret Santa, Ichirou and I are just sending each other boxes of love.

You can still get in on Secret Santa, I don't think Cloud has closed it up yet.

edit: The other PS2 Sakura Taisen games look to be outrageously expensive online, oh well...

I got him Sakura Taisen: Atsuki Chishio Ni (the PS2 remake of ST1, which has a graphical facelift including hi-res character art and the battles are based on the ARMS system introduced in ST3, which Capcom ripped off for Dragon Quarter), Sakura Taisen V Episode 0: Samurai Cowgirl of the West (I think that's the correct translation to the title...it's an action game prequel to Sakura Taisen V starring Gemini Sunrise), and Sakura Taisen V (which introduces a whole new cast and can be played independently of the other ST games).

If distantmantra likes the game and is happy with the trade, I'd be cool with doing another exchange sometime in the future and including the DC versions of ST1-4, since each of those can be found for less than 1000 yen.

BTW, distantmantra, post some impressions when you play the games - I'm especially intrigued about Godannar, G-Saviour, and to hear what you thought about ST.

I checked out the Road 100 Master Grade promotional DVD, it's a cool little thing to have. I'm guessing this is something they'd run on a TV in hobby shops over in Japan. I knew about the MG Turn A, but I didn't know a MG Destiny Gundam was in the works. Speaking of that, I still need to build my Gold plated MG Hyaku Shiki...

I haven't played the Godannar game yet, but the DVD looks to have over 2 1/2 hours of the show from a quick scan. It looks to be a lengthy recap of season one... I now have the desire to pick up ADV's brick collection of the series.

MG Destiny just came out last week, I think.  It is, in fact, a promotional DVD that played on a loop at hobby stores.  There's this mom 'n pop hobby store next to one of the schools I work at, and I go there semi-regularly after work just to look at stuff, so they know me, and they gave it to me, but I'd already seen it played so I figured you would enjoy it more. :heartbeat

Is there actually a brick collection of Godannar available?  I thought it was still only available in individual DVDs...I'm waiting for the brick to buy the show.

The Godannar brick came out in July. It's $46 at Deep Discount, but I'll wait for their next 20% off sale.

More than likely over the top cheesy Super Robot stuff, with some floppy balloon tit fanservice thrown in. It may be a Sunrise show, but AIC is involved.

The game reminds me of Tech Romancer, actually.

Probably the latter, after looking at the character designs.

Does the Godannar brick include the whole series?  I thought there was a second season or something at some point.

I may just pick it up, then.

Prole, if you want super robot action/comedy without giant bouncing anime titties, I heartily recommend Dai-Guard, which is about a security company that owns a giant robot.  It's awesome, funny, and has no fan service that I can recall (which is probably why it isn't more popular among japafags).

There's a full translation on GameFAQs for the Saturn/DC version, but it's slightly different than the PS2 version...I'll have to check when I get home.  I'll let you know.

Looks like Kayama (the guy who did most of the comprehensive translation guides for ST games) quit doing them before Atsuki Chishio Ni was released. I recommend you use the Saturn/DC ones, since the story is the same in both games...I think just the LIPS (conversation choices) have been changed and it seems those are covered in the barebones FAQ available. :T

A lot of the dialogue in ST is voiced, so that would probably help you out if you understand a bit of Japanese...

The battle system is very similar to Dragon Quarter's (Capcom ripped it off!).

I understand a bit of Japanese (four years of high school Japanese and me now trying to pick up stuff on my own), but I'm sure I'll need to rely heavily on a translation walk through. I'll make it work somehow!
