TV on DVD (Top grossing sets)
« on: October 29, 2007, 12:32:21 PM »

Nothing really surprising here.  I adore TV on DVD.  I can't watch normal TV myself.  There is never anything on and most of it just plain sucks.  However, with sets you can control what you watch, when you watch it, and at what frequency.  I love marathoning though sets on a rainy day.

My Collection:
House
Weeds

Pretty small but these things are not cheap.  I really want to get into the HBO shows.

Edit:

Here is a link to the corresponding article.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/24/business/media/24dvd.html?_r=1&ref=media&oref=slogin?8dpc

They talk about lagging DVD sales of late and how TV on DVD sets have been mostly immune from the lagging sales on the format.

Kind of interesting -- I'd like to see how many copies Firefly has sold.  It obviously doesn't stand a chance against shows that have 10 seasons' worth of sets out there, but I wonder how it would fare against the bestselling seasons of each of these shows.

Sucks that Futurama couldn't match the increasingly useless and unfunny Family Guy.

It's a list of top grossing DVD sets.  It's not ranking them in any critical way.

Wow, that list is depressing.  A straight man that watches Sex in the City should pretty much rip his own testicles off and flush em down the shitter.  I do like me some tv on dvd tho I usually just netflix it instead of buying it.

sex and the city is pretty awesome. women talking about sex--what's there not to like? i saw this one episode where the redhead was dating a guy who loved to lick her butthole. she was shocked. and later on when she was massaging him, he lifted his ass so that she would start licking it. :lol

S&TC is going to age horribly (it just sucks ass now) since it's basically a female sitcom for men.

I mean, somehow women saying cock got made into a whole show.

Sex and the City?  Really?  I knew it was popular, but *that* popular?   Same with Friends.

I guess that just goes to show the power of having a product that is easily marketable towards the female demographic.  The chicks like to spend the money.

Family Guy ranking so hightly is the most depressing thing on that list.

Aidan was perfect and he didn't deserve to be hurt.  Why couldn't she just have the decency to tell him the truth sooner?  Everyone knew how she felt about Big.  It made me so mad.  I watched the episode where Aidan finds out twice!  I was soooo pissed at Carrie that it took me 3 days to watch the next episode because I hated Carrie so much.

Family Guy is a stupid piece of shit.

I own:

Adventures of Superman Season 1 (the first season is actually pretty adult)

Andy Griffith Show Seasons 1 & 2 (will eventually own the first five seasons when they're cheap enough)

Bewitched Seasons 1 & 2 (shut up, the first two black and white seasons are great, and Elizabeth Montgomery was hot)

Band of Brothers

The Flash (guilty pleasure)

Moonlighting 1-3 (it sucked after 3)

Mr. Show complete

Newsradio Season 1 (will own up until Phil Hartman dies)

The Office (BBC and NBC) complete and current

Scrubs 1-3  (will buy all eventually)

Tales from the Crypt 1-5

Want:

Abbott and Costello
Beverly Hillbillies (just the Black and White Seasons)
Rome 1 & 2

Sex and the City is pretty good from what I have watched.  Mandark was somewhat dead on in calling Entourage the male Sex in the City, but Entourage is really nowhere near as good.

TV on DVD:

I currently own

24 (because it's basically the best show ever made or conceived by anyone ever) all 5 seasons available
Lost seasons 1+2
The Office (American) season 2
House seasons 1+2

What I really can't wait for is TV on BLU-RAY

LOST SEASON 3 is going to look FUCKING AWESOME. I can't wait to have that Blu-Ray set. And from the looks of it, the Blu-Ray set is going to be in a box like the DVDs so the spines match. I'm also getting the sixth season of 24, though I'm not as excited about it for the obvious reasons, but I'm hoping that when me and brandonh83 have our DVD release 24 hour viewing of the entire series that I will enjoy it better. Looking back on it, I think Season 6 is just a victim of Lost season 2 syndrome, where it's awful watching it on television but much better watching it on DVD.

the office us isn't really a keeper, imo. after watching episode for 2 or 3 times it loses its charm as opposed to, for example, seinfeld. almost every episode--sans the ones from the last season maybe--is, like, infinitely rewatchable.

Family Guy Seasons 1-2
Arrested Development Seasons 1-3 (I loan out season 1 all the time. I'm always scared the discs will get scratched)
X-Files - Season 2

I would buy some of the Seinfeld DVDs, but I watch the episodes on syndication all the time anyway.
