X-Files 2 Begins Shooting In One Month
« on: October 29, 2007, 05:31:20 PM »
here is the little pr. I know there are some fans of the show here (at least fans of the good years before it got shitty):
Quote
After years of David Duchovny talking about the sequel, and almost 10 years after the first feature, 20th Century is finally ready to start production on The X Files 2 with the actor in place to reprise his role of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian Anderson is also expected to be back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully.

Shooting is scheduled to begin on December 10 in Vancouver under the direction of series creator Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.

The studio is referring to the film in casting breakdowns as "Done One."

The popular series ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. Rob Bowman directed the first feature, which hit theaters on June 19, 1998.

And with this announcement, this next summer's movie list just got even fucking better.

Interesting.  This kind of came out of nowhere.  Talk of the movie heated up over the past couple of months, but I didn't think it was this close to happening.  I'm kind of surprised this happened without details of the script leaking online, even if just confirmation on whether it's mythology or not.

You know what?  I might let myself get hyped for this one, for old time's sake.  In its prime, it was one of my favorite shows ever, if not my total fave.

Carter directing has me a bit frowny, both for the story and directing reasons.  While not a terrible director, he is totally a TV director, and he may want to do a mythology movie more than a stand alone.  Which would suck.

David Duchovny has become so awesome that I'm unsure about this reprisal role as Agent Mulder. I wonder if he'll try to stick to the same character as he was in the 90's or just...different.

I agree with you for one reason: the movie is WAY WAY WAY too far removed from 1999 to go back and try to make a mythology movie. If he wants an audience to come give the movie money, it doesn't need to be a mythology film.

The first one was the second worst movie I've seen that had bees as a major plot point.  Still, the show was so awesome that I will have to watch this.

is the first the Nic Cage Wicker Man remake

Carter said a few weeks ago there is no aliens at all and is just a stand alone monster-of-the week deal like rumors said.

From what I have heard from rumors we are just going to "accept" Mulder and Scully got their old jobs back in the 8 or so years since the finale. It's just a fox & mulder on a adventure stand alone 'flick.

That's the way it should be.  Heck, have it take place pre-season 7 or something.

Carter is probably too much of a canon whore to ignore continuity. It probably is hard for him as is to have it be as open ended as this movie is.

That kind of sucks.  I wish they could at least treat the finale as a jumping-off point, rather than doing massive retcon.

there is no way fox would green light a x-files movies about solving the problems with the finale. All people remember fondly is mulder & scully going around and finding weird creatures and mysteries. Which is this film. It take like half the movie to fix the situation of the finale to get them working for the FBI and solving a new mystery.

It is far easier to just assume that all happened in the last 8 years.

Edit: anyone else notice the irony of them being back in Canada? Season 1-4, the best stuff was filmed in Canada. The switch to LA with the first film was when the drop off started to happen.

Fuck that.  If we just accept the finale was completely botched, we actually stand a chance of maybe getting something decent.  I'd rather if they just didn't mention the events of the last 2-3 seasons at all.  Then we could get a Lone Gunmen cameo, too.

It would sorta be cool if in some way Mulder and Scully have been back at the FBI doing normal cases, and then this one comes along.

Not going to happen, but it would be sorta cool

so it's a monster of the week movie? HELL YES. I'm glad they didn't base it on the mythology and fuck it up even more. The best part of the stand a lone episodes was the chemistry between Mulder and Scully. Hopefully, they still have it.

Also, I hope they don't try to make it like a generic horror movie. It needs to still have the same X-Files feel with the same X-Files humor.

If there's a Lone Gunman cameo, then Rupert Murdoch will have my money, just like he had my money for The Simpsons Movie.  :-*

To be clear I don't want a mythology movie or anything, but I'd like the series finale to be addressed in some way.  Seems somewhat silly to pretend that Mulder and Scully have just been doing nothing over all these years.  I wonder how much of a time lapse there is supposed to be between the series and this new film?

So what happened during the last two/three seasons? I kind of stopped watching it after the last movie, and all the black ooze stuff. I loved that part of the show though.

They caved in to pressure from the fanfic writing fans and made Scully and Mulder a couple.  Scully also had a baby but I'm not sure if Mulder's the father.

Ugh. How distinguished mentally-challenged... like the Superman TV series :(

To be accurate, they weren't really a couple couple or anything, but they did kind of shitcan any ambiguity about their relationship, and without going all the way and fully confirming it, they did heavily hint that Mulder was the father of Scully's magic baby but never gave a definitive answer.  I forget, what happened with that baby?  Ugh, Scully and a baby, another reason the movie should take place pre-season 7.
