Did you read the book? It's McCarthy for the mainstream, but that's still pretty damn good. I hear Ridley Scott is still looking into doing a film adaptation of Blood Meridian (with William Monahan doing the script), but Tommy Lee Jones has the rights and doesn't want to let them go or something.
Except Tommy Lee Jones wants to direct Blood Meridian himself and he's not a particularly great director either (I actually like Ridley Scott a lot, though he's very hit-or-miss).
