Have any of you had this problem with Steam?
« on: November 05, 2007, 12:11:17 AM »
It just hangs at "Preparing to Launch." sometimes it'll get to the second dot "Preparing to Launch.." but it just hangs there. ITs the first Steam game I've bought so I'm not sure if thats supposed to happen or something?

I haven't had that problem, but I have had success in the past by posting to their forums and describing my problem in as much detail as possible.

Sorry for the narutard level help, but it's worked for me.

Is cool

If its my Vista install in particular, I'll probably look into dual booting with my XP install or something...

I had problems with two vista installs, both of them due to Steam's then shitty dealing with UAC, which has since been rectified.

On average its at about 400kbs

On GAF someone provided a link to a Steam page with some Vista hotfixes. I'm going to try those out and try turning off UAC via MSCONFIG (I turned it off from the User Account screen). Someone also provided a command that seems to add localgroup to the Administration list (I guess its another way of circumventing UAC). I'm willing to try anything really.

I had this problem. The only thing that I could think of that was causing it is that I'm using Steam on more than one PC.

The problem actually got resolved last night. I think me enabling the Windows Installer service made it work. Maybe THQ games don't trigger it? (If its set to manual). Either way, both Titan Quest and its expansion launch now. Happy days!

Go to the Run. . ./Start Search box in the start menu, type services.  Find it, enable it.

I'm wondering if someone can help me with a steam issue. This doesn't happen TOO often, but every now and then, the icons next to the games in the games tab will dissappear and/or when I try to play a game instead of starting it up, it'll take me to the store asking me to buy it again, but if I log out and log in again everything is fine.

I'm having a STEAM issue I hope someone can help with. For some reason when updating it'll just stop. But if I double-click it, it'll start back up, only to have it stop again after around 5 minutes.

Also, my speeds are really wacky. Like when I was updating QUAKE Wars patch my speeds were around 500 kb/s but when I try updating the games from the rockstar pack I just bought I only get around 150 kb/s. wtf?
