Gai Daigoji is the best anime character ever and he died on the 5th episode or something. nadesico went downhill from there :'(

It's weird that Nadesico was one of the most popular shows in Japan (and I think was named third most influential at one point, after Gundam and Eva) and yet the franchise dropped off the face of the Earth after the first movie hit.

Granted, it's been a while, but I remember the show ending on a cliffhanger, and then the movie ends on a note like there's going to be a sequel (there actually was one planned at one point) and then nothing... :/

I hated the ending to the tv series, and I thought the movie sucked.
