VF5 Online - Passable, but not much better than DoA4 on average.

Plenty of hitches and frame loss on people with green ratings. Good, but not stellar, and honestly what I expected. Ill stick to quest mode and battling Drinky offline.

This has not been my experience, but I'm not a VF vet. I think one match did feel a bit sluggish, though.

I should up the difficulty in Quest mode. It's pretty much a joke so far.

It looked jerky on the 1up show even though they talked about how great it was.

Hard is slightly harder than PS3.

I use Eileen and while she has a few actual strings, most of her game requires mid air timing and crazy shit which is hard to do when yer losin frames. Most people I fought did the back off and poke combo, back off and poke combo, which is neat n all but the really good play comes when people are in each others faces. Kinda felt like joust.

Ah, that makes sense. Like I said, me not being a vet and not really knowing any intricate combos probably feeds into me enjoying the online play so much.

The X360 pad hasnt been kind to me either. Im constantly pulling off a move I wasnt trying to do :( :(

I want muh segmented d-pad

The online play isnt horrible, but playing people in person on the ps3 has just set the bar pretty high for me.

Yea, that's one thing (even with my limited experience) that I know sucks. :-\

Hell, the control stick is better for pulling off some moves.

I need online to have any competition in fighting games.  :'(

I suck with an arcade stick, was raised on pads so I am gonna just have to LEARN the 360 pad, which is fine. The good news is Hard Quest AI is actually harder than the ps3 version, so I have plenty of competition as a casual vf5er

Mundane says that the Hori pad is really good for VF.

I saw the Hori controller in a store this past weekend.  It looked pretty cheap and crappy, like all those awful third party brand controllers that would get traded in at my old game store job.  As a matter of fact, I believe Hori used to make some of the shittier Playstation and Sega controllers we'd get in on a weekly basis.  I'll stick with the official controller or get a joystick.

But you never play online, so who expected you to play this regardless of how the online is?  ;)

Isn't that how Hori's gamepads always are? Doesn't mean that they're any bad or that the build quality is cheap. It's the complete opposite of crappy peripheral makers like Madcatz.

The controller really isn't ergonomic. The analog sticks are too tall, so the pad isn't really any good for regular 360 gaming. But, chances are that you're only going to use this for arcade games.

Then it becomes awesome, the d-pad is very precise and I LOVE the feeling of the buttons. I've played over 30-40 hours of Virtua Fighter 5 on 360, along with other arcade 360 games in the past and come off extremely satisfied of the experience, if only a bit disappointed in the shitty grip. I'd rank it up there with the Saturn controller.

Isn't it pretty damn cheap too? If you end up not liking it too much, it's not like you risk anything by purchasing it.

MAF is right about the "jousting" that people do online.  Where the hell are they getting that tactic come from?  And it doesn't seem to be particularly effective either.  I can understand backing off if the match is tight and someone unexpectedly chooses not to tech recover, but if someone is doing that repeatedly you need to punish and stomp that ass, not run away.

I love jerky.

Only certain characters are good at 'jousting' online, and those are characters like Kage, Lei Fei, Jerky. Tho i think Lei Fei can require a lot of skills with stances, online people abuse a lot of his more straight forward advances.

I mean there IS frame loss and there ARE hitches, and while a few characters are relatively immune to it, most are not. If anything I would argue that DOA4 is better online cause ALL the characters work fine with lag.

Eduardo: Quest Mode has tiers, and Quest Mode has difficulty levels. I actually liked the difficulty in the PS3 version, I think the extra difficulty levels for quest mode in the 360 were a bit of a mistake.

Easy -- I cant imagine how easy this must be.
Normal -- 8th Dans dont even put up a fight wtf
Hard  -- 8th-5th kyus are as tough as 3rd-6th Dans on the PS3, even the easiest arcade is fucking tough for a casual.
Something else after that didnt bother looking -- Omg this must just destroy.

Yeah id stick to offline. There's no way to gauge skill online right now cause of the disconnect crap and the fact that latency and vf dont ACTUALLY mix
