Totally hyped for this, how could I not be? Chiptunes, great pixel art, 3D tunnel stages back in, NES Contra and Super C in there, and a very high awareness of what made the original Contra games so great. I hope that the "gap" between the 2 screens doesn't make things too frustrating or result in one too many cheap deaths.

I can't believe this game is coming out next week and it's been getting good reviews. Props to WayFoward for actually getting their gear together and making what appears to be a heartfelt yet manly sequel. Even though I had issues with Sigma Star Saga, there seemed to be an honest attempt at making something a bit different but at the same time old fashioned. Let's hope this game doesn't get completely buried in the onslaught of holiday juggernauts so that Konami won't look at these 2d revivals as failures.

I'll probably have to buy another 360 eventually. The chances of avoiding a RROD are slim. Btw, my PC also fucked up last week. Luckily, EVGA send a replacement board the very next day. I also have to RMA 1/2 of my ram though. Avoid the 680I. It's by far the least reliable board that I've ever used. There're lots of horror stories online about the 680I's ram killing ways.

Actually I just wanted a decent action-shooter on my DS as there every game Ive played on that thing lately is turn based strategy, turn based rpg, or strategy rpg. (by all means great genres, but you need variety sometimes) Or shitty mascot platformer

I didn't notice it until TVC said something, but the OP in the GAF thread seems viralish spouting lines about how it will make you a man, and to visit the offical site, although maybe he's just a Contra Nut.

Did anyone actually pick this up and play it yet? I thought there would be a lot more in the gaf thread in terms of impressions.

Picked it up today and gave it a quick run. So far I can tell there is a lot of love put into this. The opening title is perfect and the controls are responsive and Contra-like. Got as far as the middle of the third level before I put it down. It's pretty tough but not in a way to which it's unfair. I was worried that the gap in the DS would ruin the game but so far everything is timed and placed to where shots can be avoided. I could see myself, with a good amount of practice, getting through the first two stages without dying. This title is definitely worthy of the Contra name, but to be worthy the 4 moniker I don't know yet.

Oh yeah, BUY KONAMI PRODUCTS BITCHES!

What the fuck is this? The shitty DS gamepad and buttons make this game virtually unplayable! You can't control jack shit with precision, make unvoluntary moves, and the DS Lite is always unbalanced! The dual screen action is just fucking stupid too.

After playing hours and hours of portable Metal Slug Anthology on PSP this is a joke. I won't touch Metal Slug 7 DS at all because this is how badly the DS is suited for classic arcade 2D gaming.

I'm a big fan of the first 3 Contras, so this game is right up my alley. Played a little bit of this today but it's a wonderful throwback to the days of Contra and Super C... sweet animation and quite a lot of challenge. The dual screen setup hasn't been a problem for me yet, it just means you need to concentrate on the happenings of 2 screens, not just one. The grappling hook is pretty superfluous, maybe it gets more use in later levels though. I definitely approve of it, even if the DSL D-pad is a tad hard to deal with for this type of game.
