I used to frequent 1up and Gamespot for general gaming news and reviews, but after visiting both sites, along with the mediocre IGN, I can't help to understand why the major gaming media sites are so terribly designed.  It's like they are modeling the Yahoo school of web design, filling the homepage with a bunch of crap, links up the wazoo, inadequate indexing, and on and on.

That's why I just go to gaming blogs these days like Joystiq or Kotaku.  I know a lot gaming geeks crap on both sites for their apparent lack of journalistic intregrity, but hey it's in blog format, which makes it easier to read and navigate.

I do give props to 1up for their podcasts, though.  They remain among the best in the industry.

But surely the interns aren't responsible for the IA and design of the sites.
