Pre-Thanksgiving poll: RATE YER MEATS
« on: November 08, 2007, 02:04:33 PM »

Thanksgiving break is almost upon us, so what better time to have this discussion. Which meat is your favorite? Personally, I've never been a HUGE turkey fan, and instead love sweet ham. Oh man, that stuff is amazing. Pork is awesome depending on how it's cooked/cut imo

But we all know the real reason for Thanksgiving has nothing to do with cowboys, indians, or Walmart: it has to do with eating STUFFING for a week, if not more. It's the best thing about Thanksgiving and Christmas, by far. And it rocks at my house because my mom and grandma (her mom) both make separate pots of stuffing because of a staged rivalry me and my uncles came up with. How do you get more stuffing? By telling grandma she makes it better than anyone else, THUS pissing off my mom. So now they both show up with a shit ton  :lol

* The asterisk is for Beezy/Himu: do you have fried chicken on the table at Thanksgiving? We do  :lol

I've always thought that traditional Thanksgiving foods were kinda lame.  I would rather have prime rib.

In some parts of the  northeast prime rib is a traditional part of thanksgiving.
I want to move to these parts.

Puerto Rican roast pork shoulder, otherwise known as pernil, FTW.

Turkey is bland and boring bird, at least the garden variety Supermarket turkeys.  Butterball FTL.  Heritage turkeys are a different story.

I typically have a seafood dinner over at my father's house.  Usually crab and a shrimp platter.  This has nothing to do with silly ancestral tradition and everything to do with him generously acknowledging the fact that I will be sick to death of turkey after eating Thanksgiving lunch at my mother's.

And besides, SEAFOOD >>>>>>> FOWL AND SWINE

Is anyone here thinking of cooking for Thanksgiving?  I might make a couple of side dishes, like a chest puree, haricort verts with crispy shallots, and bring them over to my Mom's house.  I wanted to some make some main courses, but my mom is fierce territorial about her kitchen so forget that.

Why do people like stuffing?  It has the texture of cat vomit.  I've always found it only marginally edible.

I don't like anything on my turkey but juice from the pan.  I put the gravy on the stuffing.

Turkey is my favorite on that list, but my favorite is chicken.  On Thanksgiving, my family cooks just about every type of chicken that we know of. Baked chicken, fried chicken, curry chicken, brown stew chicken, BBQ chicken, sometimes chicken lasagna, etc...

Go ahead and laugh! :punch

Edit: Stuffing does own, but we never make enough of it. I think I'm gonna try to change that this year.

Damn, I thought I was the only one that would have voted for the vegi-turrist option.  Of course, maybe people just voted for it to be obnoxious.

I dig on stuffing that hasn't been... er, stuffed in a bird's ass or whatever.  Get some of that shit with some mashed potatoes and vegetarian gravy, with all sorts of veggies... mmm...

Puerto Rican roast pork shoulder, otherwise known as pernil, FTW.

My Grandmother or Aunt might be making it this year (one of them do, they alternate). Its probably a little too salty for some peoples tastes (that have never eaten it) but its soooo delicious.

As far as the poll goes, Turkey all the way. I love me some Honey cured Ham but I only get one time each year to taste Turkey and its a fucken event. Not that it matters though, my mother is making the Ham and then I'm heading over to my Aunts where shes making a massive turkey :lol FUCK YEAH

whoa, the front page lists polls?

probably turkey.  chicken isn't that good when cooked whole.  never had pork.  I'm not a huge stuffing fanatic, I want to taste the meat.

personally, I like tuna more than all of those though.

TUrkey sucks. The only good turkey is turkey my dad makes, and in between bread. it's got nothign on chicken. I voted for dressing because when it comes to thanksgiving, it's all about the dressing for me. that and egg nog.
