I always save after a case in the nearest bathroom

One if the first things you should do is save the security guard, who reveals the secret path in the bathroom. It's a lifesaver when escorting people.

Okay, I'm in overtime mode now.

You get the true ending when you're done with overtime.  It's what I was trying to tell you about.

I've had Dead Rising for a while now and whenever I play it I usually die pretty early on, but a good amount of time after a save point.  What I've done in the past is start over to preserve my level, which has resulted in me getting absolutely nowhere.

With the intent of beating it as fast as possible next time I play, when I die should I: a) start completely over once again and do so until I'm powerful enough to just muscle through the game at a rapid pace without fear of death, or b) start from a save point several hours behind current progress and just gruel through it as efficiently as possible until I eventually reach another save point?  Tell me how to play this silly game.

Is DR really that hard for you? What are you trying to do? The main story? Do the main story, and do whatever escorts/side quests you can your first time. Save after every case file is done.

Beat the Clown w/the chainsaw and then you can keep going to his spot for a respawning chainsaw.  Meat cleavers are also really effective.  In general, melee weapons seem to work better than guns.

It's not hard, the save system just isn't conducive to the way I've been trying to play the game.  It's like it encourages you to dick around, but if you fuck up, you lose hours of level progress.

I'll try some of these tips tonight.  Thanks guys.

you don't lose hours of level progress, unless you die. it's always the same level and stuff what do you mean. all you have to do is not die. always carry orange juice or wine with you, and always grab a katana or baseball bat, something for crowd control.

As I was telling Hyp on aim, I managed to bring 8 Queens with me at once. My entire item slot. I felt really proud! :) I borught tons of healing items and weapons on the way, but I kept finding queens underground (best way to do it, took 30 minutes) and just kept trading them up for queens lol

I managed to get all the way to the hideout and give them to Isabella with no healing items or weapons. SO GREAT

Holy shit. I am now able to do things I was unable to do before. I just escorted like 4-5 people to the security room; people I had LOTS of trouble getting to the security room my first play through. I could probably get most of the escorts now. Wow. And I was doing all of this DURING my case file missions and still had plenty of time. Dammmn, being a higher level really makes a difference.

I beat the clown lol I've beaten ummmm the clown, Steve the store manager, the guy with the hatchet, Carlito 2 times now. I just recently got an achievement for taking pics of the psychopaths, and I can take on a cop psychopath now apaprently but I want to do it after this case file. Game is even better when you replay it because of the shit you didn't see the first time.

I've saved 17 people so far compared to my 10 or so people last time. I'm doing really good this playthrough!

I still suck ass at this game, but I think I "get" it now, at least.  One of the problems I was having was from trying to squeeze in all (or as many as possible) of the side scoops, which I don't think is plausible when you're at such a low level.  You run too slow and you're far too weak.  You kinda need to accept that it's a game meant to be replayed and adopt an attitude of "fuck it -- i'll do that stuff next time" or it's all sort of overwhelming.  That's a nice attitude to have concerning the survivors too -- their pathfinding and A.I. quirks are fucking frustrating.

I should plan ahead more, I guess.  My strategy so far has been to set a waypoint to SPRINT TO THE DOOR, FUCKERS and then I clear out the area in front of door that exits that particular mall section and then run back and collect everyone that was too dumb to make it there themselves.

I just did the scoop where you fight the fat female cop and I was running around with 8 people or so and only managed to get one back to the security room.  Two of them died in the warehouse. :(

I frakking loved Dead Rising when it came out.  I had so many achievement points on it (before my old account got canceled :( ).  I never actually beat the last boss though.  The final boss was my one big complaint about the game.  You can get through the whole game not really using the special hand to hand combat moves.  But you get to the last boss and you have to be an expert at them or he kicks your butt.  That was my experience anyway.  So I gave the game up after that.  Still... I do think it's the best survival horror game I've ever played.  The save system was brilliant in a hard core way.  You actually felt like you had to survive.

You don't have to be an expert at all. All you have to do is keep jump kicking. He'll block it but eventually he'll try to hit you, and you score a hit. You need to hit him like 4 times. Easy.

well just the way the dude runs around swinging his shit wacking zombies reminded me of playing GTA for some reason, and all the texty pop ups and scoring and shit also brings GTA to mind, I guess its more of a presentation thing anyway. This game actually has awsome hand to hand combat moves and sweet animation. Well I do have a head cold so Ive been sitting on the couch eating cold medicine all day so yeah I am 'high' to some low extent lolz. last boss was a pice of piss, just spam the double lariat move and he cant touch you. What an amazing game! The whole experience really came together in overtime mode, loved the presentation and the tounge in cheek-ness all the way through. Gonna shelve the game for a bit and come back later for more achievements, currently got about 700/1000 so Im not too far off! The ones Ive got left to do are mainly the annoying/ hard ones i.e eat all the food, wear all the clothes, kill 54,000 zombies, stay inside for 24 hours, save 50 peeps etc. I'll probably just grab some faqs and work through them methodically

Its kind of up to you really, you start off pretty weak and unable to rescue guys effectively, so you might want to focus on escorts initially, gain a few levels and restart the game later on at a higher level. A higher level also makes a few tricky cases more manageable... but its up to you. The game is pretty open ended
