Having dinner with your boss' boss?
« on: November 11, 2007, 09:15:15 PM »
I'm leaving in about 90 minutes to sit down and eat with my boss' boss.  It should be a relatively fun event, but to tell you the truth, the District Manager is much more approachable on a persona level once you clock out than our Regional Director.  I don't know, I always feel like I'm being judged...

Haha, I'm not going over my DM's head.  The store I previously served as an ASM at had a period of extraordinary success during my tenure (one of the reasons why I was promoted).  At a managerial workshop last Wednesday, the Regional Director asked my previous Store Manager if he'd be okay with dinner at a steakhouse.  He could invite staff from the store he felt was influential in their success.  Considering I was a big part of it, despite the fact that I've gone on to my own successful store, my previous Store Manager invited me to dinner too.  My DM is likely sitting at home, playing Guitar Hero III and drinking martinis.

Haha, our Regional Director bailed and gave us a raincheck, but our DM showed up and treated us to a huge meal.  Fun was had by all.  I was told that I rock.

Hey, some DM's are cool

I had one guy that actually gave me his Xbox Live Gamertag and told me to call him if I needed a reference on my resume. He was pretty kickass.

I remember this. I was the youngest manager in our district (20 at the time) and had to meet our DM. He was a cartoon character .. about 50 years old, had a HUGE Civil War moustache and used a gold-plated comb to groom it every 30 minutes. Sonny Trusty was his name.

God I hated retail.

Yeah, I'm the youngest manager in our district and one of the youngest in the region.  It was wild going to a workshop for managers last Wednesday, looking around, and everyone is in their late 20s and early 30s.  I'm fortunate, that while approaching 40, our DM is probably one of the nicest guys you can meet.  He's not afraid to call corporate on it's bullshit and he's just an extremely cool guy.  You can have some shots with the guy and talk music or what have you.  Had he not had to foot the bill for dinner last night, he would've continued his weekend-long project of ripping music to his new HTPC.

Retail is tough, but I really couldn't ask for a better situation.  I honestly enjoy my job most days.

If Dave Lesar came to visit your office, would you have to fellate him?
